Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books Which Feature Badbutt Characters Who Kick Butt

Screen Shot 2015-04-20 at 9.12.14 PMHello! This week’s feature for Top Ten Tuesday by The Broke and the Bookish is Top Ten Books Which Feature Characters Who ____, so this was another ambiguous topic that tested the book blogger’s creativity. For this week I chose Ten Books That Feature Badbutt Characters, so strong heroes/heroines that can kick butt. Not too original, but these are always my favorite characters and I thought it’d be easy for me to pull books and share. Hope you all enjoy! (Did you guys notice the obvious blue theme? It’s my favorite color, hehe.)

Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix
by J.K. Rowling

This may be an unpopular opinion, but this was actually my favorite Harry Potter book and film. So I decided to feature this one. And I think why I chose Harry is kind of self-explanatory. I mean you all know of my obvious case of potterhead syndrome for always featuring HP in every Top Ten Tuesday post. XD

This was my least favorite book of the trilogy, but there were quite a lot of pivotal non-Hunger Games action where you see Katniss Everdeen‘s bravery and badbuttery on display. (Sorry, I’m terrible at making up made up words. I guess badassery works so much better in this case.)

I mean Alex Rider is a young teenage boy that works undercover for the British MI6, how much cooler can a character get?

by Nancy Holder and Debbie Vigue

Yet, another vampire trilogy I’ve read and thought was meh. However, there is some well written action scenes and I enjoyed the role of the heroine, Jenn Leitner. There’s no logic behind why I chose Damned over the other two, well other than because it’s the blue cover. 😛

Percy Jackson is a demigod, specifically one from the Big Three. Like all Greek and Roman heroes he has the courage, spunk, and badbuttery skills. (I really need to stop using that word.) Again, no rhyme or reason other than color to why I chose this book among the series.

Frostbite
by Richelle Mead

Rose Hathaway is my favorite female protagonist, precisely for her strong character, attitude, and ability to kick butt. I chose Frostbite because readers see Rose’s vulnerability in this one, which is so rare in the series. Also, the moment after the Spokane trip, the arc kind of moves to a storyline with a mature Rose and even more badbutt heroine for the rest of the series.

by Cassandra Clare

What would this list be if I didn’t mention any of the Herondale boys? As you guys know, Jace was my fictional crush and he’s definitely a badbutt. However, I feel like I seldom feature Clare’s (what some may argue better series of the two) The Infernal Devices. Like Jace (no surprise for obvious reasons if you’ve read both TMI and TID), Will Herondale is also a master of being bitingly sarcastic and dangerous. I’m team Jem, but Will definitely fits this week’s T10T post.

It’s been a long time since I’ve read this fun series, but I really enjoyed it when I did. Maximum Ride is a strong protagonist because she has to. In the entire series she’s fighting against evil and cruel scientists, while having to take care of younger siblings. She’s the strong big sister type.

Reborn

Della Tsang is a new female heroine I’ve discovered this year when I read the Shadow Falls series. I’m so glad she got her spotlight in her own series in the spin-off, Shadow Falls: After Dark trilogy. And yes, I may be partial to her because she has some Asian blood in her, which is kind of relatable for me? Young adult authors, please feature more diversity in your books.

by Naoko Takeuchi

Not exactly what I consider a badbutt candidate in young adult paranormal terms, but I loved Sailer Moon growing up and adored Ami Mizuno. She’s smart, cute, and a strong sailor guardian.

What were yall’s list this week? I’m curious to how you adapted this week’s feature to make it your own. Thank you for taking a look at mine!

When I think about badass characters, the only character who comes to mind is Rose Hathaway! She’s awesome 🙂 After I watched Death Note last year, I decided to watch a bit of Sailor Moon – I found it so cringey, because I’m too old for it but my favourite is Amy 🙂 all the others, esp. Serena and Raye seemed annoying and immature. Anyway, great choices for badbutt characters!

Great list! Katniss is definitely the queen of badassery (especially in the dystopian genre). Although I’ll admit that I wasn’t really a fan of the Maximum Ride series. I don’t know why, but it just got kind of repetitive after the first few books.

I actually haven’t completed the entire series yet, but I don’t think I’d appreciate it as much as I did when I was younger. So it’s okay if you weren’t a fan, I think it’s targeted for a much younger audience than us anyway. XD Thanks!

I also love Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It’s my favorite of the series book wise, but the film made me mad. They cut so much good stuff out ;( Great list! There’s a few books I haven’t read, and they sound interesting.

Yay, I’m glad to have met another Order of the Phoenix fan. Most of my friends like The Prisoner of Askaban the most. As for the films, they’ll never satisfy us readers, but I really enjoyed how they produced the moments where Dumbledore’s army is training so that’s why it’s my favorite film of the eight. Thanks!

And I am the kind of person that enjoys that immensely 🙂 Good job! I’ll write them down as they come and practice using the new words until I master them in any social setting – mwaah haaa haaaa!
