Hello! It’s the last Friday of the month so that means another Exploring My Bookshelves post. Exploring My Bookshelves is a weekly (but adapted as a monthly meme on here at Xingsings) bookish meme by Addlepates and Book Nerds.
This month I had a hard time finding a single title to fit each weekly topic so I ended up taking pictures of entire shelves. Because of this I didn’t explain each choice as well. Also, some of my pictures will show a lot of books in series out of order. It bothers me too, but I didn’t want to retake the pictures just for that reason. But for those of you that have OCD tendencies like me, rest assured, I did fix them on my actual bookshelves.
Okay, let’s get started!
So part of the rules is posting your bookshelf. Here’s mine as of current:
10. May 1, 2015: Your Least Borrowed Book
A lot of my friends don’t really read so most of my books haven’t ever been borrowed, but if they did read more, I think my shelf of adult, classics, and plays/poetry books would have the least borrowed books . Most classics are free on ereaders now or really cheap in the mass paperback editions. Also, my few friends that do read, seem to enjoy ya more.
11. May 8, 2015: (Skipped?)
I guess this was skipped this week? I’m not sure, I couldn’t find the topic.
12. May 15, 2015: Books You Bought the Instant It Was Released
At first I was going to show you a picture of each cover… until I realized how many I had. And it’s kind of self explanatory for why I bought them the moment of release. So yeah.
13. May 22, 2015: Books You Want to Keep for Your Kids or Have Kept for Your Kids
As you guys know, I don’t use profanity, so for this one, I chose books that have mild language and have great world building since imagination is key to a kid’s development.
14. May 29, 2015: A Book You Bought to Complete the Set
It’s kind of moot for me to show you this since I tend to buy the entire series for all the books I own, even for books I don’t like as much. Weird habit, I know.
This is my favorite book meme to participate in, just because I discover a lot of books I never think about anymore. If you guys did this, I’d love to see what’s on your list! Have a nice Friday and enjoy the weekend! 😀
I am totally in love with your bookshelf! I want one like that… SIGHS
Great post btw. 🙂

Great shelf! And it was an awesome idea to make this a monthly meme. I participate in this meme weekly, but I think I’m going to make it a monthly meme like you. 🙂 It would be easier for me, I think.

Thanks, Analee! You should consider it, I find it much easier this way as well. Plus, I kind of feel embarrassed and bad about posting my bookshelves because I don’t want to seem like I’m showing off or anything. But yes, think about it! ^.^

No problem! My skin is currently a nice shade of green… 😉
Ha ha don’t worry! You don’t come off as a show-off. 😀 I’m definitely planning on it!

I want this O.O haha did you remodel a walk-in closet?

Haha. It’s kind of hard to explain but this is a smaller, sitting room inside my bedroom. So my closet is separate from this and is a room in the bathroom. I have to admit that I have more books than clothes. 😛

Nothing wrong with that haha

Wowww you have so many books! And it’s a really good idea to keep some bookshelves empty. Most of the time I end up without space for my new books. I wanted to ask you if you have read anything by Sarah J. Mass? Her books are meant to be very good. I’m sure you heard of her as you really like YA 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, I have heard of Sarah J. Maas but I haven’t read any of her books yet. I’ve heard great things about her Throne of Glass series and A Court of Thorn and Roses though. I know that ACoTaR is a Beauty and the Beast retelling so I’m really excited for that one! 🙂 Do you plan to read some of her stuff soon?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I might read the A Court of Thorn and Roses because, as you said, it sounds very good. The Throne of Glass series doesn’t really appeal me, besides I’m really bad with sagas because I can’t ever finish them. Oopsy!

That’s alright. I’m a big fan of series just because one book simply is not enough for me. And I’m someone who needs real closure and good explanations for endings (Sarah Dessen is an exception, she tends to leave food for thought for readers by the end). I hope you enjoy A Court of Thorn and Roses if you do decide to pick it up! …I still need to buy myself a copy. 🙂

I’ve never read a book with an open ending, it must be cool! I don’t have a copy either. Will do soon 🙂

Thanks, Andrea! I did notice that your blog was called “Too Many Books Not Enough Shelves.” (Great name by the way!) These bookshelves have been a new installation to the house for about a year now so I definitely used to relate. 😛

I am so jealous of your bookshelf! My bookshelves are just random unmatching ones I’ve collected over the years all shoved together in my bedroom. It’s a hot mess 😛

I bet they work nicely, and I’m sure they still look great, haha. 🙂

Thanks! 🙂 I do have OCD tendencies when it comes to organizing my books. And haha, sadly, a bunch of my paycheck goes to buying books because of this collection. 😛

First of all, I too am very jealous of your bookshelves! My dream is to have an actual library in my home with floor to ceiling shelves. Ahh! Maybe someday! Anyway, I love your choices and again I see a lot of familiar titles. The first series my daughter and I read together were the Percy Jackson books. It is now the series she measures all others by! I have also read the Mortal Instrument series although I am worried that I missed the last one because I don’t have that many. I will have to check that out. In the school I work, one of the teachers is now reading the first Emily Windsnap book to the student and they are loving it. She said it’s always been a favorite of hers.
I have one recommendation I thought of for you while I was reading this. Have you ever heard of a book called “The Mango Shaped Space” by Wendy Mass? It’s a sweet little YA book with kind of a cool twist. You might like it.

Building these bookshelves was one of the best things we did to the house. I’m really happy with it. I hope you get to building your own in the future! ^.^
And Percy Jackson is such a great series that I remember reading when I was in elementary school and loved. It’s a great series to set as a reader’s standard! And, in middle school, I did read a lot of Wendy Mass including Every Soul A Star and 11 Birthdays, but I don’t think I’ve read The Mango Shaped Space. Thanks for the recommendation!
And speaking of The Mortal Instruments, I love Cassandra Clare. Have you read The Infernal Devices. It’s a great trilogy by her with some steampunk elements. 🙂

Yeah, I’ve been ridiculously busy lately, so I haven’t been as organised with this as I should be 😛 I’m impressed by how many series you have, I always end up with gaps! Thanks for participating! 🙂

Aww, that’s okay! I think you’ve been doing a great job considering everything (reviews, blog tours, etc) else going on.
And haha, you’re only impressed because the picture isn’t that great. I have quite a few gaps as well! 😛

I love your bookcase! I wish I had as much shelves.
Haha! I thought I was weird because I waste more money purchasing books in a series individually–in case I don’t like it.

Thanks! Not having enough room for my books used to be a huge problem for me. I literally had them stacking on the floor at some point. 😛
And I don’t that’s weird at all! I do have to admit, I have a problem. I usually end up buying books of series I’m not as fond of just to complete the series, like House of Night and Vampire Diaries. But I don’t think I’ve bought a lot of box sets either, just Harry Potter and Twilight now that I think about it. 😛

Your bookshelves are absolutely GORGEOUS. The pictures had me drooling! Your Cassandra Clare novelss look amazing, so shiny and all in hardback! I’m attempting my first ever Cassandra Clare book at the moment, City of Bones, I hope I will like as much as most people do. 🙂

Hi Becky! Thanks so much. 🙂 And hah, I saw that on your goodreads. I adore CC’s writing (obviously) and love TMI! My favorite is City of Glass. Have you read The Infernal Devices? Those are wonderful as well. If you plan to read that trilogy, make sure to read it before finishing the last TMI book, City of Heavenly Fire. There’s some Clockwork Princess spoilers in CoHF!
LikeLike
Nope, haven’t read any of The Internal Devices. Oooh, yikes! Thanks for the tip, I wouldn’t have known and I hate spoilers. I have a feeling I will be reading them, the first book is seriously addictive and I feel like I could just binge the whole series (and its spin offs)!
Would you say it’s best to read TMI and TID in publication order to avoid spoilers? Even if it means swapping from one to the other?

I actually never thought about it before but ever since 2009 I guess I’ve been reading all of CC’s book in pub order. So good thinking, that may be the best solution! Plus, with CC’s cliffhanger/plot twist elements it may be a good idea to take breaks in between them by switching the series up. I do recommend doing that!
