I’m back with another book haul post! My last one, from a few weeks ago, was a compilation of my buys from July, August, and (part of) September. In that post, I explained that I decided to include September purchases and publish that post mid September because I wasn’t planning to buy any more books for the rest of the month. Gosh, was I wrong. Thanks to Joey, I ended up having a late night/early morning shopping spree on BookOutlet. Basically, I was battling the online crowds to snag my bargain copy of A Darker Shade of Magic. And guys, let me tell you. Between being bleary eyed because it was so late and having some troubleshooting with my PayPal account… it was a struggle. But a worthwhile one.
Also I ended up with a few more ARCs this month that I wasn’t expecting to come in so soon. And I did buy 3 books for full price, which you’ll see later as square Instagram photos (I plan to post these exact photos on my Bookstagram in the coming week; no shame, I’m totally guilty of crossposting, lol) in this post. Also, underneath all photos, Goodreads links will be available!
Okay, so let’s get to it, shall we?
A Darker Shade of Magic | Complicit | Of Metal and Wishes | Evertrue | The 5th Wave
A Prince Among Frogs | This Song Will Save Your Life | How to Love
The Kiss of Deception | Since You’ve Been Gone
Paranormalcy (trilogy) | Pandemonium | Divergent (series)
No surprise with this one, I preordered Six of Crows months ago and have been hinting to you guys about my excitement! AND LOOK AT THE STUNNING BLACK PAGES. HOW COOL.
The next book is one I thought I wouldn’t buy or read until at the least next year, but I guess I’ll be reading this sooner than later. Part of the reason as to why I rushed this purchase is because of these reviews by wonderful readers/bloggers: Carolyn’s review, Jenna’s review, and Thomas’s Review. When a book brings out the real poet in a blogger from just them reviewing said book, you know it’s the real deal.
And, of course, to qualify free shipping with Amazon I had to spend $35+ (that’s how they get you, folks) so I thought I’d pick up my first Patrick Ness novel. After all, Joey and Aentee love his work. So yeah, it’s about time I join the bandwagon. Plus, from what I know, I think this is a good fit for October?
And these are the two ARCs that got. I’m currently reading Romancing the Dark in the City of Light, and I’m really liking it so far. It’s set in France and the main character shares my name, Summer. That review will be up very soon, hopefully Tuesday if I finish it in time for the publication date.
Looking at it now, I really like how this blog post turned out. Maybe I’ll continue to use my Instagram photos for some posts in the future… And it might even encourage me to buy less books to keep the posts shorter if I do use this method for book hauls. Who knows!
Anyway, have an awesome weekend, everyone! Let me know what you hauled in the month of September or share what October reads you’re excited for!
Such a great book haul, and I’m loving all of these photos you used!! 🙂 I hope you’ll enjoy The 5th Wave and Since you’ve been Gone! 😀

I’ve heard quite a few mixed opinions on The 5th Wave but I’m pretty excited for it! And Since You’ve Been Gone is going to be a perfect summer read for the… winter. Haha. And thank you, Marie!! I’m still new to book photography but it’s been fun experimenting.

I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOU TO READ ADSOM ♡ it’s the only book I’ve read in your book haul and LOVED. I hope you do too! Pretty photos, by the way! 🙂

I actually read ADSoM two months ago and I’m still having a hard time composing a review! It was fabulous and brilliantly written. Thank you, Evelyn! 🙂

I was about to go to bed because it was almost 2am but then I get an email alert. “OMG SUMMER HAS ANOTHER BOOK HAUL?!” gets laptop out again and comments on every post I see (I also forgot that daylight savings started for us tonight… so I was completely freaked out when I saw it was 3:40am because it was 1:50am the last time I checked)
Omg all those beautiful hardcovers. I have so much hardcover envy right now… especially that beautiful ADSoM edition. And those Divergent hardcovers… drools (even though I’m not really that interested in the series). I’m also excited to see Since You’ve Been Gone in your haul. I adore that book! I thought it was a really fun, coming of age story. And I especially love the dust jacket, inside and out! Also, YAY YOU GOT A LITTLE LIFE!! ❤ Thanks for linking my review 🙂 and get your tissues ready!
I’m hoping to get my hands on A Monster Calls soon. Every time I go to the bookstore, I only see the non-illustrated version so I’ve been putting off buying it or ordering it online. But I’ve only heard rave reviews about it so I really want to get to it. I heard that it’s super sad though so I’ll have to build up a huge pile of fluffy contemporary romances before I start it.
I keep a list of upcoming releases on my phone that I look at periodically and The Anatomical Shape of a Heart was on there last time I checked! Can’t wait to see your review and thoughts on that one. I remember being really interested when I read the description on NetGalley a couple months ago. Romancing the Dark in the City of Light also sounds like it’ll be my cup of tea so can’t wait for that review either 🙂
Omg 3:50am – I need sleep. And this was such a long comment =_= I guess you’ve been Jenna bombed?

Jenna bomb? This was like a Jenna explosion! But thank you, I really love long comments! And thank you for staying up, but do get your rest, Jenna!
And oh my gosh, the dust jacket of Since You’ve Been Gone is so beautiful. I had no idea it was like a flip poster thingy until you mentioned its brilliance. It’s been such a long time (like think years) since I’ve read a coming of age story, so I’m looking forward to it.
And YESSS, I finally got a copy!! Well I guess you know by now of my progress on A Little Life. Like… Like just how many thread of conversations have we got going on WP? XD 😉
There’s such a thing as a non-illustrated version of A Monster Calls? Gosh, I need to research these things. Thank goodness I got the right one! And I really enjoyed Romancing the Dark in the City of Light. It was much creepier than I expected it to be though.

I bought A Monster Calls yesterday because I kept seeing it after I saw it in your haul haha ^.^ But I managed to find the illustrated version so that’s good. We have this non-illustrated edition where it’s just the text but it’s the same price as the illustrated one so… illustrated version it is!
A Little Life actually takes over your life, as evidenced by the number of threads that it’s mentioned in 😀 Now I must go over to your Romancing the Dark in the City of Light review and start a new thread about A Little Life 😀

The same price… how odd. I wonder why they have a non-illustrated one. I can’t imagine why anyone would choose that one over the pretty pictured one. XD

Maybe just in case people find the illustrations creepy? I have no idea either.

Thank you, Yvo! A good majority of these are books I haven’t read yet no surprise, but there’s a few I have but wanted to buy since they were on sale. And I still haven’t started Six of Crows yet, but I hope you get your copy soon! 🙂

Oh gosh Summer, I can only imagine that your shelf must be beautiful with all those hardbacks. U
But anyway – COMPLICIT!! YES!! I think that one is my favourite Stephanie Kuehn book – have you read it? My advice is to NOT read the blurb; I feel like it gives the direction of the book away. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy it, and if not, well, it’ll make a great discussion! 😀
And yesss A Little Life! I’m pretty much sold on that book because of Jenna’s review, but it’s soooooo big. It’ll take me three months to finish!! heheh but one day. 😀

Haha, I think I got Complicit because I vaguely remember you and Carolyn at A Hundred Thousand Stories was discussing it and talked about how much you loved it! And thank you for the advice! I actually don’t tend to read blurbs even for books I buy, which is both great in terms of spoilers but also bad because I’m often mislead by the covers. 😛 And LOL, A Little Life is going to take me three months to finish at this rate. But nah, I really want to finish reading this before Christmas. That way if I really do love it as much as other readers have promised I would be, I can buy multiple copies as Christmas gifts. 😀

OOOH awesome! I love all of Kuehn’s works so far, so for me, she’s a go-to author for a guaranteed good read! c:
I saw A Little Life in the book shop today and oh my gosh I knew it was big, but it is BIG. I have small hands and it filled my whole palm!!

Oh gosh, lol! Well I ordered mine online because I went to four different book stories in my city and they were literally all sold out. BUT YES. That book is huge and very heavy. I was reading it in bed one day when my hand slipped and book fell on my face (as you probably can tell I read pretty funny where I like to raise the book in the air…). The book emotionally and physically hurts me. XD

I do own the Divergent Trilogy. It’s not one of my favorites, but I find myself yearning to haul every YA book I’ve read. It’s a strange feeling; the other day I wanted to do a humongous haul, like a 100 books. But I shouldn’t be trusted with so many books. 😀

I’m guilty of seeing Divergent the film first and I have a feeling it’s going to be one of those guilty pleasure reads like Twilight for me, but that’s alright, they’re pretty on the shelf! Haha, as you probably can tell from my shelves, I’m a maniac when it comes to book buying. But I’ve been good so far in the month of October…. no purchases yet! But that’s because my state is under a hurricane and all the bookstores are closed. LOL.

Again that’s a lot but considering your splurging for books, it’s ok haha! Those black pages of Six for Crows are simply stunning! I placed a preorder for Anatomical Shape of a Heart but of course, free books/ARCs are way better! You really need to do double shelving soon, Summer 😀

I always reason my crazy sprees with I don’t spend on anything else, well other than food and necessities. 😛 And aren’t they? I couldn’t take my eyes away from the book when I first got it in the mail. I’m really looking forward to The Anatomical Shape of Heart. The premise sounded so intrigued. AND LOL, you’re so right, Trisha! Double shelving is going to be a must soon!

OH MY GOSH, HOW FAST! I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed it so much though. I’m really looking forward to your review! And aww, me too! I’ve missed so much in the blogosphere. Being in this semi-hiatus mode is so sad… but yeah, school is important so… but I think I did pretty good with catching up on comments today. 😛 Now I want to visit all the blogs (including yours) I’ve missed lately! Get ready, I’ll be heading over Book Snacks soon! 😉

Haha thanks! I couldn’t help it, and I wanted to read it before my schoolwork gets even more overbearing. Last year of school and all!
Don’t worry, I totally understand! Blogging is important, but school/ university is setting you up for the rest of your future, so of course it’s the priority. ❤ And yes, I would say you did! At least, if replying to my many comments is any indication. 😉 Tee-hee I’d appreciate any effort on your part—though of course there’s no obligation!

Awesome haul! I literally just reviewed The Anatomical Shape of a Heart on Goodreads! In the UK, its called Night Owls, the cover is just ❤ The black pages of Six of Crows looks very cool! Excited to see you’ve got Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson – one of my favourites of the year. Looking forward to your thoughts on it! I remember shipping on Amazon to be free on anything, but now its only free if you spend £10 on books but £20 on anything else -_-
Now that you mention it – A monster Calls is definitely fitting for October!

You know what? When I saw your review for Night Owls on Goodreads that was when I realized that this book had alternate names. Very cool though. I still haven’t started it yet since I’ve been in a bad reading and blogging slump (as you know). I blame it on starting to watch Reign and scheduling so many blog posts. 😛 And awesome! I’m really excited to try some Morgan Matson! AND I KNOW RIGHT? That is how all the online book stores get us. Buying a certain amount before we can qualify for free shipping. But I guess I shouldn’t be complaining since some countries don’t have access to the wonderful online book shops. But then again, Book Depositary ships worldwide, I think. I recently bought a book from there and it was such a nice experience. Speedy for being overseas and free shipping no matter what. Plus, bookmarks! 😀

I wonder why though? Anyway I hope you enjoy it! Me as well! Wished I had more time to blog and with reading I’ve become a bit slow too, sometimes I can’t dedicate my spare time to it Yay, looking forward to hearing what you think of Morgan Matson’s books 😀 Oh yes, that is very true. I can’t complain either. I haven’t brought anything from the Book Depository yet but do hear its great! aw free bookmarks does sound awesome. I got a free bookmark from Wordery and thought, isn’t this nice? 🙂 Never get any from Amazon lol.

I think the Book Depository is the only bookstore I’ve gotten complimentary bookmarks with my purchases. They’re always so cute though; BD sure knows how to bribe and encourage their customers in spending money with them! I still haven’t read anything so I don’t have any material to blog about, lol. However, I’ve finally caught up with replying to comments but it’s been ages since I’ve done a proper blog hop. And I’m so behind on the few review copies I’ve been sent. The Anatomical Shape of a Heart is released tomorrow and I still haven’t started it yet. Sigh. I think I’m just going to sit back and take my time (with blogging and reading) though. It’s not healthy when blogging becomes a big anxiety. 😛 Anyway, hopefully we’ll both overcome this strange blogging period! 🙂

There are two cookbooks I found on BD that I want to get and its at a good price too! 😀 Ohh I am looking forward to these complimentary bookmarks. Taking your time is always the best way forward 😉 It’s hard to spare time to read when you have school as well. I feel so lazy about blogging XD yes hopefully!

Cookbooks?? Oh my gosh, don’t tell me you like to cook too (in addition to crafty and bookish stuff)! I’ve been learning how to cook more stuff, but it’s been slow progress. I eat out a lot, heh. XD

Sorry for the late reply! Haha that’s the reason why I’m buying it, as I’m not a good cook. I can cook basic things. I feel like the only thing I can cook well is stir fry and fajitas! I need to learn to cook more things too. I enjoyed baking at school but never did any baking at home but would love to learn, as I love the Great British Bake Off! It’s amazing!! Is there an American version of it? Ditto, I love eating out! 😀

Ah, that’s okay! Ooh, stir fry is so good though! And I’ve actually never had a fajita before. Usually when I go to the southwestern places I like getting bean taco salads. Guacamole is life. And Great British Bake Off sounds so cool! I think we have shows like the Cupcake Wars. 😀 But since I’m not a good cook or baker, I usually stay away fr0m watching such shows (it makes me too envious)! But I do adore the Sorted Food youtube channel. I watch those videos religious and in full. Love the guys in it! The food always turns out fab, and they always make it look easy.

If you don’t have time, fajitas are very quick and easy to make, and they taste good! Esp. with the Old El Paso spice 🙂 Ohh a taco salad sounds delicious. I love avocado. I say a salad is not a salad without avocado! 🙂 haha cupcake wars sound funny. Me too but I make the great british bake off an exception because its entertaining! I subscribed to Sorted Food a while ago! Haven’t watched any of their vids in such a long time though! I should get on that. Agree! I watched the souffle one and it looked so easy! If your not a good cook, fear not, there’s always YouTube 😀 I still need to get my cookbooks. I plan to do a haul at some point XD

And I’m thinking about picking up A Monster Calls tonight since October is coming to an end soon.
