Book Haul: October 2015

1Hi, I hope you all are having a nice start to November! Today I wanted to share my latest purchases from October. You guys probably are used to me doing these haul posts every couple of months but now that I’ve become more active in the bookstagram community, I thought it’d be fun to change up the format by using my Instagram photos to share my purchases (I have no shame in cross posting, haha). Perhaps I’ll stick to monthly book haul posts for the remainder of 2015; it’s likely I’ll return to longer haul posts with three months worth of buys-like how I did in the beginning of this year-in 2016.

I actually got this signed copy of ACoTAR, which will probably the first Maas book I’ll read, on Halloween night. I was hiding from trick or treaters by doing some book shopping. I also started A Monster Calls that night but even that fun, illustrated book couldn’t get me out of my reading slump. :/ Sign, I still haven’t finished it, A Monster Calls that is. And all the other books stacked on the far right were from a late night Bookoutlet purchase.

So these four books, pictured above, are all the review copies and ARCs I got in October. I was really surprised to get Wolf by Wolf in the mail mainly because I never win giveaway-like things. Then again, this monthly NOVL giveaways aren’t really all based on chance and luck. The first number of bloggers that requested Wolf by Wolf were guaranteed to get receive a copy. I guess I was still lucky though; lucky enough to see my monthly NOVL subscription email so quickly. Anyway, thanks NOVL! I’m currently reading it right now and will probably have a review for that one up soon!

This month, I also got a finished copy of Unspoken, which was really bizarre since I was already sent an eARC and early physical ARC of it months ago, as mentioned in my July + August + (part of) September book haul post. Anyway, I really loved the conclusion to the Shadow Falls: After Dark series (you can read my review here). Again, thank you St Martin’s Press for all the copies of Unspoken you sent; way more than I needed, but I really appreciate it!

And the last two books on the right are both from Penguin Random House (thank you, Penguin!); they aren’t released until the end of this year/beginning of next, but you all will see them again soon on Xingsings. So stay tuned!

Now these are a couple of purchases I bought while trying to find a present for my friend’s birthday on October the 14th. I ended up getting her The Glass Castle, which is pictured in the middle above. The funny thing is… I discovered The Glass Castle when another friend gifted it to me last Christmas. It’s just the perfect present; I really recommend this book to everyone. It’s an absolute favorite of mine (you can read my review here, if you’d like). While out and about in the bookstore, I also found a cheap mass market paperback of To Kill A Mockingbird in the bargain section. This was one the few popular classics I never had the pleasure to read in school; hopefully I’ll be able to read it the beginning of the new year! But my ya purchase from that bookstore trip was The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. Being a fan of the paranormal genre and vampires, I am so excited for this one! I also really like Holly Black’s writing from what I read by her (The Modern Faerie Tales trilogy; it was years ago).

Lastly, here are all the ebooks I purchased. Some of these are books I may want to invest in a physical copy someday but every single one was $1.99 or less. I can’t resist Kindle deals! Also I don’t have a lot of shelf space anymore.

That’s it for this month. I feel pretty proud of myself, I don’t think I bought as many physical books as I usually do. I actually did buy 4 more books that aren’t pictured in this because they’re part of Christmas gifts I haven’t given to friends yet. Some of my friends don’t even know I have a blog and the ones that do know don’t follow or really keep up with it, but to be on the safe side, I’m not going to mention those books in this post. 😛 So what have you guys purchased in the last month? Any book haul posts? If you do, please link it below; I’d love to know what you guys were able to get. 😀

Such a great book haul! I love your instagram pictures, I’m following you now 😛
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts about A Thousand Pieces of You. The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak is on my TBR, too, so I’ll be looking forward to that review, too…and all of the others, obviously! 😀
I didn’t purchase ANY books in the last month 😦 I know, that’s awful, but I still got so many books left to read, and the money’s tight, lately, so, well…and time is getting rare with NaNoWriMo month and university. I really hope to get more books soon 😀

On the contrary, I find not buying any books is the goal (at least for me)! Plus, I know a lot of books are super expensive outside of the US, so I totally get it. And speaking, of out of the country, I know you don’t live in Paris exactly but with everything going in France and Europe, are you doing okay?

They really are, but it gets okay when I order online. This saddens me a bit, though, because I love going into bookshops to watch books, but very few English bookshops exist, close to where I live.
No, I don’t live in Paris at all, indeed. It’s okay, I guess, it’s just very terrifying, everything that’s happening. Thank you so much for asking, Summer ❤

You’re so lucky to have the ACOTAR signed copy! It looks wonderful. And I have the same edition of To Kill a Mockingbird as well! I really like the original cover art, but this one is also really beautiful, with the pretty silhouettes. You should totally read the book, it’s a really good book 😉

TKAM has been on my TBR for years. Strangely, it has never been any of my required assigned reading throughout school. Haha, I don’t think I’m appreciating my copy of ACoTaR as much as I should. I need to read it first so I can see why everyone adores Sarah’s writing so much!

Damn…I always get jealous of your book hauls! 😉 Seriously though, I never get to buy so many books at one go, you’re soooo lucky! Nonetheless I LOVED these pictures, bookish picture are the kind of pictures I could look all day and not get bored. I already read ACOTAR as you know but I had the ebook, I just looove the cover so much, I’m going to buy both the books when book 2 comes out, I’m so exited for that book! I’ve never heard of some of the books in your haul and I have 2-3 of them but I’ve never gotten to them, hopefully I will in the future. 🙂 Snow like Ashes is so beautiful, I’m waiting to buy the paperback, probably will soon! 😀
Oh, forgot to say the main thing, GREAT HAUL! !

Haha, sometimes I’m kind of amazed by how many books I buy in a month too. It’s quite scary actually. And aww, thank you, Poulami! 😀 It wasn’t until I joined the bookstagram community did I realize there’s such a thing as #bookporn, which I found terribly funny. XD But I totally can relate. All things bookish is pretty awesome!

Awesome haul, Summer!! Omg I hauled like 30 purchased books and 9 ARCs/trades in October. Was too ashamed to do a haul post… I refuse to face my spending head on. But I LOVE Snow Like Ashes! So excited to see that in your ebook haul. And The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak is a lot of fun, and you should read it if you feel slumpy! Also, I am glad to see you finally picking up some Sarah J. Maas. ACOTAR is a great one to start with!!

Wow, 30+9 books is a great haul! Don’t be ashamed of your love for books. 😉 Though, it would probably take some time to take photos of them for a post. I tend to get lazy with doing these haul posts when there’s 20+ books; just finding, stacking, and returning those books to their respective places on my bookshelf after taking a photo is too much for me, haha. And I’m only picking up ACoTaR first because I don’t think I’m ready for ToG feels yet. XD

I know! The spot where I take photos is so far away from my bookshelf and it’s a real pain to carry them! But I will attempt to do a proper haul this month! Hehe, I personally enjoyed ACOTAR more than ToG, as a first book. But the series definitely gets epic real quick! I’m excited to see what you think!!!

Summer this will be very incoherent so I apologize in advance but –

I SPY UNTEACHABLE!! HGNHHHHHHHH That’s probably my favourite, AS IN PROBABLY MOST FAVOURITE, read this year. ;_; Oh gosh I’m so excited for you to read it! Would it be your first Raeder book? Because once you start reading her books, you just never go back. XD

(Also A Thousand Pieces of You! ❤ <3)

Haha, don’t worry, Chooi! I think I’m mostly half asleep when I comment on your blog. XD

And whatttt?! Now I didn’t realize it was your favorite 2015 read!! That’s some heavy weight; I have high expectations now. 😉 And actually, it’ll be my first Raeder and NA book. 😀

(Ahh, A Thousand Pieces of You is so, so beautiful. It’s kind of a shame I bought it as an ebook though.)

Hahaha indeed! But I say that with the utmost confidence. I think if Raeder’s books are your type of book, you honestly can’t go back. A friend of mine read it but found the sex wayyyy too intense and ‘too much’, so it wasn’t for her. But I hope it will be for you!

Right? I cried so much omg haha. I am definitely investing in the paperbacks soon. ❤

I hope you get to read To Kill a Mockingbird soon. It’s just beautiful! I haven’t read any by Sarah J Maas but I have several of her books on my TBR. Good luck with all the reading! I find it so easy to buy books but harder to read them all 🙂

AHHH. SO MANY GREAT BOOKS. I absolutely loved Snow Like Ashes, Throne of Glass and The Darkest Minds, so I hope you enjoy those too. And I’ve heard so great things about The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak, so I’m curious to see what you think of it. Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous haul! ❤
