12 Days of Christmas Book Tag

12 Days of Christmas Book Tag

Hello everyone! I was tagged by Joey at Thoughts and Afterthoughts and Deanna at A Novel Glimpse to do the 12 Days of Christmas Book Tag! Thank you both so much.

The way the questions were introduced for this tag were super fun. “Twelve Days of Christmas” is such a classic song, and a really easy tune to play. I remember growing up playing this and few other Christmas carols on the piano, haha. In case you’re a pianist or love music as much as I do, you should stop by Kyle Landry’s channel and listen to his epic Christmas medleys (my favorite Xmas medley of his). His occasional improvs are brilliant!

Anyway, there’s no telling when I’ll schedule this post. I’m hoping to squeeze this in before Christmas day though since the holiday happens to fall on the last Friday of the month, meaning I’ll be posting an Exploring My Bookshelves post then. But yeah.

Alright, let’s do this!

On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: a partridge in a pear tree.

The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favourite stand alone?

Of course it’s The Truth About Forever!! Ugh, I love that book so much. I think I’ve read it at least five times.

On the second day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: two turtle doves.

Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

Maybe Clace (Clary/Jace)? I mean after all the trials and hardships their relationship went through in TMI, I don’t know how you can’t ship them by the end.

On the third day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Three French Hens.

In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?

Hands down, The Infernal Devices. That trilogy ruined me and though deep down I knew who Tessa would likely being ending up with… that love triangle absolutely shredded me. Plus, it gave me a chance to meet my fictional crush. Oh, sweet Jem.

On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: four calling birds.

Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favourite series?

I could continue to make this a Cassie Clare appreciation post and say The Mortal Instruments, again, but nah, let’s make this somewhat diverse, shall we? Harry Potter! Oh wait, I use Harry Potter a lot too. Maybe Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Or even Vampire Academy (book three onwards though; I wasn’t a fan of the first couple installments).

On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: five golden rings.

One ring to rule them all! Who is your Favorite Villain/Antagonist?

It’s sort of predictable that I’d choose the Darkling from the Grisha trilogy (my reviews of the books in that series), right? Or maybe even Sebastian from TMI (once again)? Instead, I give this award to Holland from A Darker Shade of Magic (you can read my review here if you’d like)

On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: six geese a laying.

Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favourite world/world-building?

It could easily be Cassie Clares’s shadowhunter world or even Rowling’s magical HP setting. But I choose A Darker Shade of Magic for this one. The multiple, parallel Londons is such an intriguing, unique concept.

On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: seven swans a swimming.

Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favourite animal sidekick?

I can’t seem to think of a good one that comes from literature. Maybe Baymax? Like he could heal me if I got hurt during a mission. XD

On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: eight maids a milking.

Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

Maybe books that feature the underworld like Percy Jackson and the Olympians or the fairy/faerie/faery realm or Seelie Court like The Modern Faerie Tales trilogy? I know food is an important aspect in those type of fantastical worlds.

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: nine ladies dancing.

Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favourite kickass female lead?

Rose Hathaway from the Vampire Academy series, for sure.

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: ten lords a leaping.

How about your favourite leading lad?

Umm, Harry Potter? Or maybe Simon Spier from Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (review)!

On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me: eleven pipes piping.

What is your favourite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

This was a hard one on the top of my head. I had to look through my Goodreads shelves for assistance. At first, I thought of If I Stay, a popular book I didn’t really enjoy. But I think I’ll choose two Dessen reads for this instead: Just Listen and This Lullaby. Just Listen probably fits the challenge question more from what I remember though.

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: 12 drummers drumming.

Drum roll please…what is your favourite read of this year?

Too hard to choose one favorite. So I’ll choose three, which all happen to fall under adult nonfiction and literary fiction: Unbroken (review), The Glass Castle (review), and A Little Life (sigh, I’m still halfway through this one; and it’s collecting dust on my desk). I am primarily into young adult books, but these more thought-provoking and deep ones do strike a chord and leave me thoughtful for days.

*As always, please don’t feel pressured to complete this tag unless you want to. And I’m sorry in advance if you’ve already been tagged or have done it (I miss a lot in the blogosphere it seems).

Thanks for tagging me Summer! (I’ll probably end up doing this one sometime after Christmas – even though it will no longer fit the atmosphere, but it’s still talking about books, so justified I guess, haha!) I loved reading your answers, like always 😀

I’m so excited to read The Infernal Devices/The Mortal Instruments, but I’ve somehow only ended up with the third book from The Mortal Instruments. 😛 Have you read the Shatter Me series, Summer? I think you might like it. 🙂

I say this is perfect time for you to pick up The Infernal Devices then. There’s some spoilers in CP2 (book three of TID) for the last TMI book. And I haven’t read the Shatter Me series yet! But I’ve heard wonderful things; so many readers have recommended it to me. Thank you for reminding me! 🙂

I definitely want to get reading, but now I’m hesitant to get the books on Kindle, since I have a print version. It bugs me. XD For example, I have all the Percy Jackson books in print except the last one, and that just makes the collection seem incomplete!

Argh I really need to reread all of Sarah Dessen’s books. I know which ones I’ve read but I remember literally nothing about the plots because it’s been 7-8 years? I remember LOVING The Truth About Forever and Just Listen. Must revisit those in 2016! And Baymax is a wonderful choice! He’d be the best buddy and his healing abilities are just a perk! Plus imagine all those fist bumps?
