Happy January, everyone! It’s time to cover my purchases for the month of December. Overall, I thought I did a really good job with not buying as many books. It was all because I mainly remained as a couch potato throughout that month with all that Asian drama, movie, and anime watching. However, I did see the sunlight and go out on a few bookstore trips. But you’ll notice that most of this haul is comprised of ebooks (I went a little crazy with downloading them) or gifts.
You’re probably thinking, “A little my butt,” right? I can explain… they still had the buy two get one free manga sale from black Friday when I visited the bookstore. Since manga is usually never on sale-and pretty expensive-where I live, this was one of those rare opportunities in which I could fill in the gaps of some of my manga collections (Sailor Moon (I completed this one), Vampire Knight, Kamisama Hajimemashita, and now, Skip Beat). What was the point of “filling in the gaps” when I’d start a new series to collect anyway, huh? Well, I thought the Skip Beat volumes were a real steal since each volume was a 3-in-1 bind up. Oh and did you notice A Little Life? “Wait, Summer, you’ve been reading this and don’t you own it?” I did. I really wanted to gift my friend this too though. And basically I was behind on my gift shopping and forgot to order it in time for Christmas… I ended up giving her my copy for Christmas and reordered a copy for myself later in the month.
Haha, don’t worry, I didn’t haul all those purple books pictured on the left. That was just an Instagram photo that fulfilled a bookstagram tag; what I really wanted to show you guys is my first ever magnetic bookmark! Isn’t it darling? I just adore unicorns so much! I don’t tend to buy bookish things because I spend enough money on books as it is, but thanks to Carolyn at A Hundred Thousand Stories I was able to discover the Crafted Van free shipping deal they had for Black Friday. I also purchased a Panda in the jumbo size but I later decided to gift it for my friend. And, on the right, I used some of my Christmas gift card money to purchase those three books (they were only $8 all together!) and my first Pop! Funko figure. I just finished watching Attack on Titan and now I’m officially obsessed. To the point that I may create a post on that anime, heh.
I got a few review copies and ARCs this month. As you can see, Penguin Random House and St. Martin’s Press were super generous to send me books that have already been released (How the Grinch Stole Christmas! back in 1957 and My True Love Gave to Me in 2014). And if you’re interested, I posted my review for How the Grinch Stole Christmas and My True Love Gave to Me before 2015’s end; you can read them here and here respectively. The three on the bottom of this collage are eARCs I received. I’m actually going to have a blog tour stop with Sanctuary Bay at the end of this month; the publisher will be doing a giveaway so look out for that if you’re interested!
My friends seldom give me books as presents even though they know I enjoy reading… because I buy so many books and acquire them so quickly that they have a hard time keeping track if I’ve already purchased a book or not. Besides most of them don’t really like to read themselves.
I told you guys I went a little crazy with ebooks this month! I blame it all on Amazon’s Kindle Daily deals in the month of December. All of these titles you see here were $1.99 or less. Some weren’t even a dollar so I couldn’t resist. Also, lately, I’ve been keen towards ebooks since they don’t take up shelf space.
This post ended up being pretty short and sweet. Have you guys read any of these titles? Any must read immediately titles on this list? Let me know! And, as always, have an amazing day! 😀
You got sooo many books I’m jealous! Have fun reading all them:)

Thanks, Alice! There were some hit and misses in My True Love Gave to Me but I did find a couple of stories I ended up really loving. I hope you enjoy when you get to it.

WOW. This is an impressive haul and this is one of the reasons why i don’t own an ereader yet because I would literally just abuse all these deals we get on books haha. Manga sales are definitely rare so I’d definitely take advantage of them when they come around. I really enjoyed My True Love Gave to Me simply because winter is my favourite time of year and there aren’t a lot of winter contemporaries around, which makes me sad haha.

Ironically enough, winter is my favorite season! So I second your opinion with winter contemporaries being the best. Especially when there’s hot cocoa involved. (; And haha, I’ve had my ereader for years but didn’t start using it until lately. It’s really helped with shelf space though!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! That’s indeed a very generous giveaway. Should be a good read, I reckon :)!

Sooo many books, as always! 😀 I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on bookishly ever after. This book is highly anticipated by SO many bloggers, I’m intrigued! 🙂 And I loved Sanctuary Bay!!! ❤

Lol, this is the problem with replying to comments so belated. Unfortunately, as you know, I wasn’t a massive fan of Bookishly Ever After! However, there’s still a lot of readers that loved it! And oh my gosh, Sanctuary Bay was fantastic! It was creepy and kept me so intrigued.

All the books, I’m jealous! I just started reading manga (Death Note) would you recommend the ones you hauled?
LikeLiked by 1 person
If i recall correctly Death Note has a more darker theme. I’d recommend Nana and Attack on Titan for sure. Skip Beat is more fluffy and on the romance side, but is probably my favorite!

I’ve been eyeing Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet for ages! Let me know if you liked it and I might give it a try 🙂

Definitely! I always try to read books I was gifted within a year, so Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet is a priority read. 🙂

Looks like you got some pretty awesome books 🙂 The ARCs seem really interesting! The “Bookishly Ever After” one seems like a great read for us book lovers (and the title seems like a perfect book blog name…?!)

Haha, that’s a great point, Isabella! Unfortunately, Bookishly Ever After really was not a book for me. Ah well.

OMG you did go crazy with the ebooks!!! And they look like amazing books too. I’ve read and loved some of the contemporaries you hauled but there are so many that I want to read too! I’ve been wanting to buy Kissing in America for ages but still haven’t gotten around to it yet because my TBR is killing me T_T. Good luck with all the reading!!

All of our TBR mountains are toppling, I’m sure. I have real respect for those that have less than a 100 on their TBR. And lol, this month I went crazy with everything. Physical books, ebooks, bookmarks, pop funks… I’m going on a strict book buying ban for sure in February.
LikeLiked by 1 person
HAHAHA good luck with that ban! I went on Book Depository as soon as my ban was over… and spent like $140 on some hardcovers T_T. One of them was hardcover All the Light We Cannot See, which is a birthday gift for a friend, so I guess I can factor that out. Still spent $100 on myself though…

LOL. I actually spent some money on Book Depository this month too. I bought some classics I’ve been wanting for a while now. I love how the Modern Penguin Classics look.

I’ve only heard good things about it so I’m really excited. Plus, my friend that gave it to me swears it’s one of her all time favorites (and she’s a much bigger reader than I am).

Oh My My!
That’s a huge pile of beautiful books.
I can understand how it feels to have a sale on Manga. Boy! They read fast and are damn expensive. Hence, you made the best decision.
I love ebooks too! Especially on sale, we can grow nuts. #noshame
Have A Nice Day! 🙂

Agreed, I speed through mangas way to fast it’s disappointing. Not to mention it takes a long while before the next volume is released. And sales are my kryptonite when it comes to saving money, for sure. Thanks, Warisha! I hope you have a lovely week ahead! 🙂

Damn all those pretty dress covers though LOL #fashiongoalzz I totally loved The Rithmatist btw, probably even more than Steelheart actually.

Pretty covers in general is a huge problem coupled with cheap books (too much spending happens). And thanks for the heads up! There’s no telling when I’ll get to experience Sanderson’s writing… but I’ll start with The Rithmatist between the two.

You definitely will not regret reading Sanderson.

So. Many. Books. Can’t wait to hear what you think about Things We Know By Heart and Bookishly Ever After 😀 I totally agree than December is the time to watch all the Asian drama you’ve missed in the year. In one go and no sleep XD

Unfortunately, Bookishly Ever After was not a book for me at all. I hate to write bad reviews especially when I’m the black sheep… Oh well. And hehe, Asian dramas are the best in the winter with no school and a bowl of ramen. That’s like the ideal for me. 😉

Ahh, that’s unfortunate 😦 I hate writing bad reviews too but I love them, especially when they just rip into everything! And yes, binge watching ftw!

Haha, I do have quite an obsession with buying books… XD I’ve only read one NA book (Going to Far) and liked it. I can’t wait to read Colleen Hoover’s work since she’s praised by so many!

Summer, I have so much admiration for your blog: from its steady stream of commenters, to its #onfleek aesthetics (just look at the pictures you include in this post as well as your sidebars), to your casual yet flowing voice – I love it all. Glad that you got all of these books, in particular your manga and your e-books. I am looking forward to your thoughts on Ugly Love. So many people have praised yet, but I detested Colleen Hoover’s book Slammed… so we will see if I give her a second chance. Fabulous post as always.

Thanks so much for the kind words, as always, Thomas! It really means a lot coming from a veteran blogger. Colleen Hoover seems to be well loved author but I know a number of readers that didn’t care for some her work, as well, because of the characters. Hopefully, Ugly Love will have an amazing, likeable cast. If not, I still have Hopeless waiting for me. ^.^

OMG! Awesome books you’ve got there! I watched the remake drama for Skip Beat a couple years ago and it was great. I didn’t know they made the comic too! Hahaha. Oya, have you read the Passenger by Alexandra Bracken? Some people said it’s good but I haven’t read it too. I think the book is quite great, if you’re interested. 🙂

Actually the Skip Beat drama was based off the anime which was based off of the original manga/graphic novel series. I also saw the drama and that’s how I discovered the original story. The drama wasn’t that great, honestly, but you should defiantly give the manga or anime a try. It’s fab. Ooh, I’ve seen Passenger all of the blogosphere. Some of my friends got ARCs but thought it was an okay read. However, I do want to read Bracken’s Darkest Minds series sometime soon! 🙂

Awesome book haul and pictures! Wow you did go ebook crazy but if they’re cheap on amazon kindle, its a great bargain 😉 that unicorn is so cute. Looking forward to hearing what you think of Emmy & Oliver and Ugly Love. Colleen Hoover just seems to be the Queen of New Adult. The only book I’ve loved of hers is Never Never 😀

Thanks, Thuong! I’ve heard Colleen Hoover is quite a hit or miss author (sort of like Sarah Dessen but for NA?). I actually haven’t read that many NA books though. Actually I think I’ve only read one, Going to Far. Anyway, I’m curious and want to delve into more mature YA books. And thanks! I actually ended up buying more magnetic bookmarks this month from another Etsy shop, I’ll probably share them in my January haul, haha. 🙂

I used to read the Vampire Knight series back in high school! I keep meaning to pick it back up, but, like you said, it’s kind of an expensive habit, and currently comic books have become my expensive habit, haha. Also, that unicorn bookmark is super cute!

Oh wow, so sorry this is so late but I guess this comment escaped my notice. Anyway, same… Lately I’ve been buying only manga just because I want to finish my collection and my local bookstore has had that 3-for-2 sale again. But I’ve noticed that electronic manga is relatively cheaper so I may start collecting them on my Kindle, which is essentially like reading online (I know) but at least I can support the mangaka this way still. 🙂
