Happy Tuesday, everyone!
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. It was created to allow the book community to share ten books every week in response to a chosen theme.
I had to participate in this week’s topic because I love summer related Top Ten Tuesday themes. 😉 In fact, I did last year’s equivalent to “beach reads”/”summer TBR” last summer. And the hilarious thing is that I didn’t read a single book from that supposed TBR pile. I’m not really surprised since I’m a big mood reader. That’s why I never make monthly or seasonal TBRs; I never would follow through, haha. However, I have a feeling I’ll work through this one closely because most of these titles are planned buddy reads and/or books I just have been dying to read for some time now.
And I know most people like to read contemporaries in the summer, but since I’m generally a fantasy reader I like to read those during the hot season as well. 😛 Plus, the summer is really my only chance to really freely read-especially this summer since I’m not taking any summer classes.
The first five books on top of the photo are all ARCs and review copies I received many months ago. Normally, I would have felt guilty about not reading and reviewing them in time for the release dates, but I don’t feel so bad about these since the first two (Dreamology and When We Collided) were just giveaway wins (actually Dreamology was the book I got when I went to Yallfest last year at the Epic Reads booth) and the next three (Some of the Parts, Not If I See You First, The Serpent King) were unsolicited copies I got from Random House but didn’t request myself.
As for the five other books, those were all ones I purchased myself. I chose Fangirl, because, gosh, I just need to read more Rainbow Rowell! My only exposure to her work was her short story contribution, which I adored, in My True Love Gave to Me (my review). The remaining four (The Wrath and the Dawn, The Rose and the Dagger, Divergent, and My Life Next Door) are other books I told myself I had to read this summer because of the hype and popularity.
Do link your lists! I’d love to see what you are going to read this summer or what books you recommend as beach reads. 🙂
I think you will like Fangirl. I loved it! Divergent was also fun to read.
Actually I’m quite strange, I read pretty much anywhere but the beach. 😛
I think maybe something about winter could work to trick your brain in escaping the super hot weather.

I’ve never heard anything negative about Fangirl so I’m really looking forward to it. And I’ve actually already seen the film for Divergent; it was great!
And omg, you aren’t the only one! I’ve never ever read on a beach before. I don’t want to get salt water or sand in my books. XD

I think if you keep them save, it should be fine. But there is no escaping the curse of the sand.. (seriously, it gets everywhere)

Great list! Dreamology sounds really interesting. I don’t know how many of my planned summer reads is going to actually get read, but we’ll see! I hope you make it through your list this summer 🙂

Hehe, thank you! And I totally can respect that; TBR lists never work in my favor usually. 😛 And Dreamology was one of my highly anticipated releases of the year. The premise is so mysterious and intriguing. 😀

Great list, I hope you enjoy all of these books! The only title I read from it was Fangirl, which I greatly enjoyed 🙂

Oh I’m spotting some incredible books on your list! I really want to read Dreamology, it sounds like the kind of book I could love. I can’t wait to hear what you think about it 🙂 When we collided is on my TBR as well 🙂
I loved My Life Next Door so, so much, and it’s a perfect summer read, I hope you’ll love it!

I have this feeling that both Dreamology and When We Collided will be great books for you. I really want to read them soon but I’m struggling trying to finish my current reads (none of them are that compelling-but I can’t bear to DNF them since I never do that). And yay, I’ve heard fab things about all of Huntley Fitzpatrick’s work-I’m especially looking forward to My Life Next Door. 😀

Oh I get it, I never want to DNF a book either, because I feel like the ending could always make the whole thing better, and I’m always scared I’d regret it. So exctied for you to read all of these books!

I have Dreamology, When We Collided and Fangirl all on my TBR 🙂 I didn’t enjoy TWATD, but I hope you do 🙂 I love the Divergent series! 🙂

Oh no, I’m sorry to hear about TWatD. I’ve heard it’s quite a polarizing read so I’m going to lower my expectations just in case. And yay, for books in common. I’m sure we’ll both enjoy those titles. ^.^

I think it just wasn’t my kind of thing – it may be yours though! I don’t think the hype helped either …

I want to read TWATD so bad, but I’ve been putting it off for fear that I’m not going to like it. Dreamology and When We Collided both sound like super interesting reads as well. I have been living under a rock when it’s come to new releases this year that weren’t Glass Sword or ACOMAF (so bad, I know!).
I had no idea what to do this week, so I tried to do something a little different. If you’re interested, here’s my TTT. 😀

To be honest, I’ve been quite skeptical of TWatD as well since it seems like such a polarizing review. So I’m going to go into with low expectations to be on the safe side. And oh, I totally get that. I was out of the loop for years until I started this book blog last year. (It was so bad to the point where I had never even heard of Rainbow Rowell and Sarah J. Maas. #theshame). :3

The Rose and the Dagger is also on my list! I have to admit that I succumb to my whims more than any list I create and as a result My Life Next Door has been on TBR list for close to a year.

Haha, well I have books (well actually only like four or five) that I’ve had since I was nine years old, so they’ve been on my shelf collecting dust for over a decade… Don’t feel too bad! :3

I am terrible at sticking to a monthly tbr list. My mood is just too unpredictable so I never read the books I intend to either haha. However, there are several books in this list that I’m hoping to read this summer. The Serpent King is a priority read at the moment and I really want to read The Wrath and the Dawn. My Life Next Door is one book I have re-read countless of times. It’s just such a sweet, summer contemporary romance that has a lot of heart. I hope you enjoy the book and you succeed in keeping to the list. 😀

I’m only now realizing how many books we have in common in our TBR piles, haha! XD Precisely! I would fail at booktubing (not just because I’m uncomfortable with talking to a camera but) because I’d never follow my monthly TBR lists. And the funny thing is… I totally thought The Serpent King was a sci-fi book from the title until I saw Joey’s review and discovered it was realistic fiction. And thanks, Lois! I need all the encouragement I can get. 😉

Booktubing looks fun but I could never get past that feeling that you’re basically talking to yourself in front of a camera when filming haha.
To be fair with a title like The Serpent King it’s easy to mistake it as a fantasy.

Great selection this week! I read Not if I See You First earlier this year and really, really enjoyed it–I especially loved how snarky the MC was! She was a ton of fun to read about/from the perspective of.
Here’s hoping you enjoy them, when you get the chance to pick these books up! Here’s my TTT, if you’re interested in checking it out! Have a great rest of your day!

You seem to have a great set of books to read this summer. I loved The Wrath and the Dawn, hope you enjoy it too. Fangirl and My Life Next Door are ridiculously adorable. I hope to get to Dreamology soon. I didn’t know you hadn’t read Divergent! I wasn’t the biggest fan of the series but the first book was great.
Hope you have more success with this list than you had with last years! I don’t make monthly TBRs either, I just read what I’m in the mood for. Whenever I’ve tried, they completely fall through xD

I’ve been semi spoiled for the ending of the Divergent series so that could be why I haven’t picked up the books yet… However, I saw the movie for the first book and loved it! And hehe, thanks! I hope so as well. I started Dreamology yesterday. It may be too early to recommend it but it is really charming so far!

Everyone seems to adore Fangirl so I’m going to go into it with low expectations just in case. Same for The Wrath and the Dawn (I only recently learned it’s quite a polarizing read). 😀 (Honestly, I’ve been semi spoiled for the ending of the Divergent series. -___- But I don’t want to be left out so I want to read them anyway!)

Omg speaking of Rainbow Rowell, you totally need to read Carry On! (After fangirl though haha), I think you’ll really like it ❤ Can’t wait to read Divergent with you! AND omg dreamology! I hope you get to it, it’s such a cute light fantasy/contemporary read ^^

I started Dreamology yesterday and I’m already charmed. ^.^ Haha, I definitely plan to read Carry On (but after Fangirl, of course) since it’s received generally positive reviews since it’s been out. Thanks for the recommendation! ❤ Omg, lol, at the rate of how indecisive I am I have no idea when we’ll really buddy read Divergent, but I’m looking forward to it as well!

OMG YES <333 it’s so cute right? Yay! Can’t wait to hear what you think of both those books ^^ Carry On was a bit slow in the beginning but it gets really good (: lol same, I’ve been reading a bunch of books not on my tbr like my brain is purposefully drawn to the ones I didn’t pick out for this month XD

Ive heard great things about Dreamology! I hope you enjoy it. 🙂
I feel you on the fantasy-in-summer front, haha. I just don’t like contemporaries much, and fantasy is good all year long. I also tend to read many thrillers in the summer months. I know, I’m kind of strange.

Dreamology is probably one of the better books set in high school I’ve read as of late. It’s really charming so far form the little I’ve read.
And same! Looking at my Goodreads shelves the other day, I noticed how little I’ve delved into the contemporary genre. I tend to reach for fantasies by default. OMo, thrillers are a little too bloody (and creepy?) for me, haha. That’s all right, it’s what makes you unique! 😉

I’m also planning on reading The Rose & the Dagger over the summer too! I’m crossing my fingers it’s as amazing as the first book, but from the reviews I’ve read it doesn’t sound like I’ll be disappointed. And Divergent and My Life Next Door are amazing! Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous choices! ❤

YES, Fangirl!!! I love Rainbow Rowell so much and I need to read some of her newer books as well. 🙂 I totally get what you mean about being a mood reader and not following a TBR! That’s the whole reason I took 20 books on vacation, haha.
