Hello, everyone! This summer I’ve been on a roll with releasing monthly book haul posts, haven’t I? I’m proud of myself. However, I can’t say the same for my book buying habits… As you guys all know, I’ve already given up on book buying bans. I clearly have no willpower when it comes to bargain books and magnetic bookmarks. 😔
However, next month I’m pretty certain I’ll be limiting myself more than I’m used to since I need to save the majority of my money for textbooks in August. Why are school books so, so expensive? TT_TT
Anyway, in June, surprisingly, most of the books I bought were manga. Mainly because that 3-for-2 sale was going on again at Books a Million. And since I’m a collector I thought it was a good chance to start filling in the gaps in my series. I also ordered the entire set of Ouran High School Host Club since the entire series was for less than $80 on Amazon, and I really enjoyed the anime when I watched it years ago as a teen.
I also bought two LGBTQ+ titles for Pride Month but was only able to read one, More Happy Than Not (which I actually buddy read with Lois at My Midnight Musings). I’m trying to catch up on book reviews; I’ll have one out for that real soon, I hope!
But June was a super huge splurge month if you read my June Summing It Up post… because I was indulging in some other things aside from books. Exo had an amazing comeback with two songs, Lucky One and Monster. Because I had to purchase each version of their Ex’Act album (Lucky One Korean, Lucky One Mandarin, Monster Korean, and Monster Mandarin) to support their album sales for music charts, I ended up buying four albums which is way more than I usually spend in a month.
So I didn’t buy the e-reader that you’ll see below myself. It was actually a nice gift from my dad (just because)! It’s the Kindle Oasis; I really love it! My Kindle Fire is about four years old now, and he knew that I didn’t like how it had a glare when I read outside (which I do a lot when I’m at school-my university is pretty big and there’s a lot of great nature spots ideal for lounging outside) and it was too heavy for me to lift when I read in bed (actually it fell on my face several times-and, my gosh, that thing hurts). And it’s really cool that the cover charges the Kindle as well! Anyway, I’m really thankful and happy to have received it as a present. (Thanks, dad, for treating me when June with father’s day should be your month…)
Lastly, as for the review copies I received… Aside from Ever the Hunted, all the ARCs (physical (The Stars Never Rise and The Devil’s Evidence) and electronic (A Hundred Thousand Worlds and A House for Happy Mothers)) were unsolicited galleys. Because I already have so many books in my TBR pile that I purchased myself, I haven’t been requesting ARCs for a few months now. Therefore, it’s really unlikely I’ll be reading the unsolicited review copies I was sent any time soon (or at all-some of them aren’t really for me…). However, like the rest of the books in this post, I’ll link the Goodreads links in case any of you are interested.
And that’s pretty much it! Hope you all enjoy the photos! As usual, all links will send you over to Goodreads. I’ve also started to link manga up to their respective links on Myanimelist, too. 🙂

Thank you for tuning in for this month’s haul post. What have you guys purchased lately? Anything you’re really excited for? Let me know! Until next time, everyone. 🙂
I started reading Orange a while ago and it was really good from what I read 🙂

A lot of people seem to have been really into since the anime is supposed to come out soon. I’m really looking forward to reading it since there aren’t that many volumes! 😀

I am so eager to hear your thoughts about More Happy Than Not, that book has been on my TBR forever!
And ugh I get it, textbooks were so expensive as well when I had to buy some. It was annoying 😦

I assure you that More Happy Than Not deserves the hype it’s received across the blogosphere, Marie! And I know right? ): Tuition is already really ridiculously steep; I wish the books were at least cheaper.

Ohhh well I need to buy it soon then 🙂

I believe I was able to control myself, I bought Lola and the French Kiss for my sister. 😀
Oh I did read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe… I expected more. But maybe you will like it.

Aristotle and Dante has received so much hype since its release. I’m going to dive into it with low expectations just in case… Thank you, me as well. 🙂

I was meant to be on a book buying ban until October, clearly that has not worked out well for me so i’ll just limit my spending instead of going on a full on ban. I quite like the looks of that Kindle Oasis and how sweet is your dad. I’ve been debating on whether I should buy myself a kindle or not. I’m always so impressed with your manga collection.
I honestly don’t know how I managed to go three years without buy a single text book for university haha.

Why thank you! I feel like the manga/graphic novel obsession is a lot worse than regular books seeing that they’re more expensive, but they’re not too bad when they go on sale as well! And, haha, don’t we all have that problem? But I really do feel like having a budget is better than withholding from spending at all (but I guess I can only say that since I have good job). And omg, how could you go through school as a history major without purchasing textbooks? Teach me your ways, please! XD

The library. I’d basically borrow the main text books and keep renewing them. Or failing that some of my lecturers uploaded all the relevant chapters to our module. I had some pretty epic lecturers haha.

Omg, that’s awesome! We only get about two textbooks per course in the library, and since there’s 24K students… Usually by the time I try to check one out it’s already been taken. ): But I have attended some courses where I ended up not getting the book because the lecture was suffice in doing well. 🙂

More Happy Than Not was a pleasant surprise in many ways. It’s definitely a downer at times, but still very moving! I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the warning. I’ll make sure to be in a decent head space before taking on into More Happy Than Not. I’m looking forward to the good writing.

Have you read Second Chance Summer yet?

I haven’t! I have to sheepishly confess I haven’t read any Morgan Matson yet. But I hope to remedy that someday.

Oh, you should! Her books are spot on AMAZING! I gave five stars on Goodreads to all of them😊

This is such a great haul, Summer! Hope you get to enjoy those books you got – I particularly loved More Happy Than Not and quite recently finished Aristotle and Dante.
Also yay for Kamisama Kiss and Orange! I loved those two titles. ❤️
Finally… what did the green macarons taste like? 😂

Thank you, Reg! 🙂 I really loved More Happy Than Not. I was pleasantly surprised how moving that one was. Oh, Aaron. T_T
I still haven’t read Orange but I plan to soon since the anime is coming out (or may have already started by now)!
And the green macarons were so wonderful! My friend made them actually. They were mint with chocolate ganache filling. ^.^

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by that one too! And the ending was just so bittersweet – that whole book is quite meaningful. ❤
Mint with ganache sounds so amazing. Your friend must be a great chef – macarons are hard to make, I hear. 😛

The really crazy thing is that he rarely bakes, and that was sort of a miracle batch for him. It took him three tries that day, but he got them perfect. 😀

OMG. So many fabulous books! I am really looking forward to Ever the Hunted – it’s one of my most anticipated releases for the second half of the year – so I hope you enjoy it! And I’ve heard a ton of great things about Second Chance Summer and More Happy Than Not so I can’t wait to see what you think of them! Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous hal! ❤

Amazing haul Summer! I have The Silkworm on my bookshelf begging me to hurry up and pick it up and Ever the Hunted’s cover looks gorgeous. That drew me so i’m going over to goodreads to find out more about that!
Lovely photo shots of your books too, book buying bans never work for me either!

Thank you, Hannah! I haven’t started the Cormoran Strike series yet, but I’ve heard pretty fantastic things about it. And Ever the Hunted does have such a pretty cover! It’s one of my most highly anticipated releases of the year. I hope it’s going to be as epic as the premise describes it to be. And thanks so much!

YAY I’m so excited about all the manga that you got! I LOVE LDK! And I watched the Orange live action movie a few months ago. It was pretty good but I have a feeling the manga is heaps better so I really want to check it out too! Hehe I’m happy to see that your HappyHelloArt obsession hasn’t waned 😀 I actually recently bought that Sailor Moon with Tuxedo Mask bookmark for a friend. It’s so cute!!!

Orange has an anime out now, too, I think! I know it’s going to continue into the beginning of when my fall semester begins, but I’m going to give it a try. And omg, I’m really enjoying L-DK so much right now! It’s so cliche and cheesy, but my hopeless romantic heart loves all of it. 😀 And haha, it certainly hasn’t! I’m too afraid to count how many I own. XD

Ooo I can’t wait to read Ever the Hunted!! I got a kindle paperwhite for Christmas from my husband, and I tricked him recently into thinking I wanted the Oasis (because I am mean!), it’s nice to know that he would’ve actually bought it for me though 😂😂 but I’m happy with the paperwhite 🙂

Aww, that is really so sweet of your husband! I had the Kindle Fire before the Oasis and liked that it was very versatile but it wasn’t great for reading outside. The Paperwhite and Oasis defiantly works better for readers. 😀

There isn’t a glare on the newer kindle’s – which makes it easier I think 🙂

Great post, Summer! I was so excited to see the Silkworm in your haul. XD I love that series so freaking much, and not just because it’s written by The Queen Herself. The Kindle is so freaking beautiful- the wood texture- gah, I can’t take my eyes off it. XD I need to get my hands on More Happy than Not- I’ve heard such brilliant things. 🙂

Thank you, Aimal! I haven’t started the Cormoran Strike series yet, but I hope to read them sooner than later. And hehe, thank you! The Kindle Oasis is such a wonderful update from my old Kindle Fire. It doesn’t have a glare when I read outside; it’s so reader friendly. And yes! More Happy Than Not was kind of a surprising read. It didn’t really grab my interest until about 120 pages in… but it ended up being so moving! T_T

YES FOR ARISTOTLE AND DANTE!!!! Excuse me while I fangirl at EVERY person I know that mentions this book. It is one of my favorites and I’m always excited when I see someone is about to read it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
I also just read the first volume of Orange and I loved it so much! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series, since everyone says it gets even better. Well, if the first one was already very good, I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Oh my gosh, everyone has been gushing how amazing Ari and Dante are so I’m certainly going to pick it up sometime soon, hopefully! I’m currently reading Wolf Children, Ao Haru Ride, and ReLife so I don’t want to start Orange just yet, but I’m so happy to hear that! Do you plan to watch the anime? 😀

Loving your book hauls, Summer! I understand what you mean about book buying bans XD Its hard to resist bargain prices! I was thinking of writing a post about how to avoid buying too much books lol. And aw that’s so sweet that your dad brought you a Kindle Oasis! Love the colour of the case too. Yay you brought Second Chance Summer! I haven’t read it yet but I hear its good 🙂 that illustration on the cover of Orange looks amazing! ❤ Hope you enjoy reading all these lovely new books! 🙂

Thanks so much, Thuong! And hehe, my reasoning is always, “I’m going to buy the book in the future anyways, so…” AND YOU SHOULD create that guide; it’d be so helpful for me! And thank you, my dad is too nice to me. T.T And right, I think I’m so addicted to anime/manga just for illustrations. Thank you! ❤

Ugh, those pesky deals at book stores always siphon me of my money. Congrats on gathering a fab ensemble of books. Also, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe and More Happy Than Not are two of my favorite books of all-time, so your gorgeous picture of the two together also made me scream in fanboy merriment. Keep on slaying it, Summer!

Aww, thank you, Thomas! More Happy Than Not was certainly a ride I hadn’t anticipated in a good way; I truly thought it was going to be a super happy story. And I can’t wait to meet Ari and Dante since so many readers have gushed about them. And right! Ugh, I just really need to put a stop to my spontaneous bookstore trips and online book site visits. 😅

Thank you, Fatima! Haha, the Ouran set was bought at a whim-but I certainly hold no regrets. And will do (with Orange); however it’s likely I’ll be watching the anime before I actually read the manga since I’m currently reading so many (Wolf Children, Ao Haru Ride, ReLife). It wouldn’t be a problem if I caught up with all of these… but I’m not. 😅
