Hello everyone! I haven’t done a tag in ages and, funnily enough, I found The Summer Reader Book Tag waiting patiently (since last summer) in my drafts. So yup, today, Summer (🙋🏻) is going to do a summer (☀️) tag before the season ends. I was tagged by Alex Alextheshadowgirl’s Blog, Ashley Dreamingthroughliterature, and Analee at Book Snacks. Thank you, ladies!
Note: I am an award/tag free blog in that after I finish the last few-okay maybe more than a few-drafts of 2015 tags/awards that I was tagged/nominated in last year, I won’t be doing any more tag/award posts.
And here’s a fun tidbit about summer, the season, and me… I probably have mentioned it before but it’s my least favorite season ironically. It just gets way too hot where I live. I also remember spending most of my summers at the salon hanging out (when I was younger) and working (when I was older) mainly because it is the busiest season in the nail industry (with people in their flip flops and in need of pedicures all the time). Haha, good times! 😛
- Lemonade: Pick a book that started off bitter but got better.
Probably the new summer anthology, Summer Days and Summer Nights (my review). The first couple of stories weren’t really that great so I was sort of worried with the remaining short stories. Thankfully, they got better towards the end! (I actually really loved the Jennifer E. Smith one! I need to remember and try to pick up at least one of her books before the summer ends.) - Golden Sun: Pick a book that made you smile beyond compare.
In Real Life (my review) was exactly my type of story. I love books that incorporate music (rock bands specifically) and online best friend relationships. I was beaming ear to ear for how cute the story and romance was. And I should mention that our protagonist is an accurately represented Asian!
- Tropical flowers: Pick a book set in foreign country.
Well the latest one that I’ve purchased is Raw Blue; I believe it’s set in Sydney, Australia. After hearing about Summer Skin, which was recently released earlier in the summer, I wanted to purchase and read Eager’s debut novel. - Tree Shade: Pick a book in which a mysterious or shady character was first introduced.
Unteachable (my review) because I had an inkling who Evan was when Maise met him but I totally wasn’t expecting that (in my opinion) awful twist later in the book. - Beach Sand: Pick a book that was grainy and the plot barely developed.
Definitely The New Guy (and Other Senior Year Distractions) (my review). I had a really tough time getting through this one since the plot was pretty much nonexistent. I mean the story is driven by a battle between… two clubs, which is a lot lamer than what I was expecting. The more I read, the more letdown I was by this. I probably should have DNFed. Strong contenders for this title that I’ve also read this year have been: The Vegetarian (my review) and Bookishly Ever After (my review). - Green Grass: Pick the character(s) that were full of life, making you smile.
Oh, Percabeth (Percy + Annabeth). Because I can’t imagine being more alive when you’re fighting off monsters, haha. - Watermelon: Pick a book that had some juicy secrets.
Hmm, it’s been a while but probably the Private or Luxe series. I remember reading a few books from both of those series and not really liking them, personally. There’s just way too much drama going on. However, they definitely radiate scandalous Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl vibes. As for something I’ve read more recently that fits this description… Sanctuary Bay (my review), for sure.
- Sun hat: Pick a book that had vast big universe/setting.
A Darker Shade of Magic trilogy for its parallel universes. Like 4 Londons?? How much cooler can you get? (I digress but I seriously cannot wait for the release of A Conjuring of Light! AND DID YOU GUYS SEE THE COVER from when it was released earlier in the summer? Please fangirl/fanboy with me if you have. I am so, so excited.) - BBQ: Pick a book in which the character was portrayed as a hunk.
A hunk is someone that is incredibly muscled and ripped, right? Finding someone with that description is actually much harder than I anticipated seeing as most YA heroes are just handsome… But I guess I’ll choose Owen from Just Listen since I do remember him being built bigger and taller than most fictional guys. - Summer Fun: Pass the tag on.
- Aentee at Read at Midnight
- Aimal at Bookshelves and Paperbacks
- Carolyn at A Hundred Thousand Stories
- Chooi at Read, Think, Ponder
- Jenna at Reading with Jenna
- Joey at Thoughts and Afterthoughts
- Kelly at Dancing through the Pages
- Lois at My Midnight Musing
- Marie at Drizzle and Hurricane Books
- Poulami at Daydreaming Books
- Thuong at I Read Therefore I Am
- Trisha at The Bookgasm
Okay, so I’m starting to realize that most of my friends are on hiatus from blogging, but no matter! I’ll tag them anyway just for the recognition. :3
And that’s all! #Iwassoshamelesswithallthebookreviewlinkingandselfpromotion #Ahwell This is a scheduled post (all of my posts are now actually) so I should be at work when this goes live. But I hope you all found it amusing maybe! Thanks for tuning in. Until next time, everyone! 😀
Aw this is such a cute tag. I really want to read In Real Life, glad you enjoyed it. I find it so hilarious that you don’t like the season that is literally your name xD

Hehe, a lot of people in my life have joked about the irony. XD And thanks, Shotobhisha! Hope you decide to read In Real Life sooner than later; it’s uber cute and suitable for the summer. 😉

I so need to read A Darker Shade of Magic trilogy! I loved your answers btw! I did this tag last month, nonetheless thanks for tagging me!

YOU NEED TO! A Darker Shade of Magic itself is kind of just okay, but the sequel is brilliant. And oh gosh, so sorry about that! I haven’t been blog hopping as much lately because of work and everything. 😅

I WILL SOON! 😀 No worries though I added your name in the credit my tag post! 🙂

Ohh great answers, I love this tag 🙂 I agree, the world in AGOS is just incredible, and I can’t wait for the next book of the series to be released! 🙂

I could be wrong, but I think I saw that your GRs said you finished it… Right? It’s so fabulous! And book two is the reason why I began to ship Lila and Kell. That balcony scene. Swoon. Also, I love action and magic with the Element Games. XD The third installment is probably going to be epic knowing Schwab. ^.^

I did, it is awesome. I just LOVED the balcony scene so, so much. I can’t wait for the next book 🙂

Ugh. I need to go back into the repository of tags to see if I did this one before. It sounds so familiarrrrrr BUT I ALSO WELCOME IT IF IT IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT BECAUSE I AM RUNNING OUT TO DO.

I seriously can’t believe you’ve done nearly all the tags. 😮 But have no fear, I plan to sit down and work on some old tag drafts this week. (Though I’m going to schedule them into the far future…) Surely there will be at least one where you haven’t tried. 😀

Thanks for the tag Summer! Will definitely do this tag at some point soon 😉 Glad to hear that In Real Life written an Asian character very well! embarrassingly have not read any V.E. Schwab’s books yet XD but I feel like its a must because everyone seems to love them! I don’t think I’ve read any book either where there is a ‘hunk’ in it, or maybe I have in New Adult? lol. Blogging is like a full time job and I can’t keep up XD

You’re welcome, Thuong! And oh my gosh, you haven’t?? I don’t know why but I thought you have! I’ve only read the first two books in the A Darker Shade of Magic trilogy, but book two was so awesome! Her writing is really enthralling; the imagery is wonderful and not overdone. And haha, right? I’ve only read a few NA books, but I don’t seem to have much luck with them even though I am part of the targeted age group. 😅 LOL. Absolutely, I feel the same way. XD

Really? No I haven’t! lol. I feel a bit out of the loop. It just hasn’t been on top of my reading list so far but I will take your word on it since you’ve enjoyed it so much! I’m part of the NA age group too XD we’re probably not looking in the right direction when it comes to NA haha.

A Conjuring of Light ❤ The entire trilogy has owned the cover game. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve actually gone and bought both the UK and Us editions cause I needed both covers!!
Percabeth ❤ They will always be one of my OTP’s. I love that we got to see the progression of their friendship and eventual relationship from the very beginning. It felt like such a natural progression and the dynamic between the two never fails to make me smile.

RIGHT?! But I know how much you love Victora Schwab’s work so I feel like it was necessary in your fangirl career! 😉 I’ve only done this (buying multiple editions that is) for the ADSoM trilogy, TID (I had to with this one…), and Night Owls (because the UK cover is way cooler than the US copy).
And aww, yes! Percabeth will forever live on as one the most adored OTPs for me. You’re so right, their relationship progression was so natural. I actually read the books when I was Percy’s age so I feel as if I grew up with them. XD

Awww that’s so cute. See, the PJO series is one I wish I read when I was younger because I think growing up with that series would have been epic. Oh well, at least I discovered the books later on and appreciate them now. 😀

Ahhh cute answers! Kind sad that number 5 had two additional contenders while the other answers didn’t lol.
Also yesss Percabeth~! I find it funny that you chose Owen for the last one because I don’t remember him as a hunk I remember him as a giant teddy bear character. Acted kinda gruff but was actually super soft.

Thank you, Kelly! And oh gosh, you and your attention to the details, haha. But you’re so right, it is kind of sad. I actually noticed the other day that my GRs average rating has slipped down to a 3.29… Like what happened?? XD
Haha, actually your description of Owen is more accurate than a hunk. I guess I couldn’t really think of one then, lol.
By the way, I’ve missed seeing you on the blogosphere! T_T Hope you’re enjoying your summer though! ❤

Eeek well my average ratings on GRs aren’t very high either.. probably around where yours are, actually.
I feel like YA doesn’t tend to portray male characters as hunks so that’s probably why xD
Yeah I’ve had a hard time finding the motivation to go back to blogging. I do have ideas for posts but I don’t really have the motivation to actually follow through with it, which kind of makes me feel lazy but it’s kind of nice having a summer without a ton of time on the computer. I hope I do get a chance to go back to blogging though…
Thank go the tag although I honestly won’t do it for a long long time!
