Book Haul: January + February 2017

book-haul_-jan-2017

January was my birthday month so it should not be a total surprise that this haul is on the lengthier side. Though, it really doesn’t feel like I bought a ridiculous amount since many of these items weren’t ones I spent money on; they were gifts. However, I did purchase some bookish merch (specifically wooden bookmarks and literary candles). And I have to say I’m not exactly on board with becoming a full fledged collector of either of those (yet), but I did like the stuff I ordered. I’m getting use out of the woodmarks because they’re, surprisingly, thin (so they don’t make books bully-which is good) and sturdy. Also, they effuse the nicest woodsy scent that is not overpowering. As for the bookish candles, I plan to make a separate review post about the scents I got and how they burn each; I’ll share my honest thoughts then. I’m just waiting a few more orders from different candle shops to arrive before I begin that project, haha.)

Also, lately, I’ve been into electronic books. (That’s why you haven’t seen me hauling that many physical ARCs; I just haven’t requested any.) As you can deduce, the biggest reason behind this transition is due to lack of self space. Another part of me has also recognized that I’ve become quite a critic; I haven’t enjoyed YA the same way as I did when I first began blogging. So I’ve started to prefer collecting most books electronically and saving my physical shelves for books I really love. (To be honest, I’m quite happy with myself for choosing to implement this new change. Now, let’s just see how successful I’ll be, lol.)

Lastly, have you guys noticed something different…? I mentioned this in my January Summing It Up post, but I upped my Instagram game since my last haul post. Personally, I’m really pleased with how my photos have been turning out. And I hope that you guys will think the same. 🙂

Thanks so much for tuning in! Let me know if you’ve read any of these books and if they need to be added to my priority TBR. 🙂 (I do have such a thing as a priority TBR actually. I recently “cleaned” my Goodreads shelves and created two TBRs. There’s the traditional “To Read” shelf (aka the books I consider priority reads) and a “Let It Collect Dust” (aka titles that I’m not in a rush to read but plan to pick up someday). It may not have made a difference seeing as both still are TBR lists… but it does give my mind some ease.) XD

Ahaha, we seem to have the same problem when it comes to buying books, lol. And omg, ACoMaF was much better than ACoTaR in my opinion. It could be because of Rhys. 😉 Thank you! I actually haven’t read Throne of Glass but I had to get it since I love coffee myself. XD

Never really cared for literary candles but I thought the ones you have were just lovely! I’m actually scared I might burn the house down if I light one of those aha. I also spy Maid-sama! LOVED the anime and manga. ❤

I wasn’t into literary candles either! But I kept seeing them pop up on bookstagram so I caved, lol. And omg, a fellow Maid-sama fan?? It’s such a shoujo classic. I love that antics between Misaki and Usui. Speaking of Usui… he’s too perfect. /heart eyes/ ❤

Love this haul! So excited to see Skip Beat tbh – that’s one of my favourite mangas ever and I could probably talk about how much I love it for hours, haha.

And also really excited to see Learning to Swear in America! You’ve got some great books in your haul – Noteworthy is a particular favourite of mine – but I’ve always felt like Learning to Swear is rather underrated because not many people have read it. I found it really cute and unique, and I hope you do too. ❤

RE: getting more ebooks – this is exactly my life at the moment! I’m moving overseas and don’t even know how I’m gonna get physical ARCs anymore, so ebooks are my game from now until I figure out everything else. Regardless, though, they ARE great for saving shelf space for the books that you truly love. 😛

Ah, thank you so much, Reg! Ahhh, I cannot believe I’ve found a fellow Skip Beat fan. (Well actually now that I think about you’ve recognized nearly all the shoujo manga I’ve talked about on my blog in the past, haha.) But yes, it’s one of my favorites too!

I’m so glad to hear that! To my shame, I still haven’t read Noteworthy despite having an eARC of it… I’m hoping to read it next since the reviews I’ve seen on GRs have been nothing but positive.

I 100% agree! Ever since I got my new Kindle I’ve been more keen on using an ereader to read these days. XD

I love this haul and glad to know i’m not the only one that’s made the switch to getting more ebooks. To start, they’re a hell of a lot cheaper and there’s the matter of shelf space. More than that I feel like any book I get in it’s physical edition is because I loved it and am likely to read it again cause the last thing I want is for a book to be collecting dust. So most of my cute, contemporary reads are ebooks.

Indeed, ebooks are cheaper! (Well, most of the time. Sometimes new, physical books can be super cheap at the bargain sections over here.) And right?! I’m starting to feel that way now. I have a lot of books that I’m was interested in reading when I bought them… but not so much now since my reading taste has changed. (I’m starting to realize that I’m moving away from the sci-fi genre.) I definitely fluff reads are better electronic, ahaha.

Most of my contemporary books are ebooks, the main exceptions are the ones I find myself re-reading so I ultimately buy the physical copy. I’ve been looking at some of the books I read a few years back and I’m debating on giving some away so I can have more shelf space but I need to get over the attachment. I’m such a book hoarder haha.

Your hauls are always such goals, Summer. T_T The candles, the bookmarks (those woodmarks are freaking GORGEOUS, especially the Harry Potter wand one!) and of course, the wonderful books. Physical books are great and all, but they can get so expensive and they also take up SO much space, so I definitely understand your switch to ebooks. I’ve been utilizing OverDrive and borrowing more ebooks from the library and also listening to audiobooks. 🙂 Great post, again!

Oh goodness, thank you so much, Aimal! ❤ I normally would never go for candles because I’m quite sensitive with certain scents or fragrances… but after seeing them appear on so many bookstagrams I totally caved, ahaha. Agreed! Switching over to electronic books has certainly freed up a lot of shelf space for me. I’ve also used OverDrive in the past and like the system as well. 🙂

Ah I think its about time I checked out all your posts! Been on such a huge book-related hiatus lately! (Life just got in the way as usual XD). Your book photography on instagram is so lovely and pretty 🙂 These bookmarks are the cutest things!

Thuong! It’s nice to hear from you and thanks for catching up with my blog. (And I completely understand, it’s totally okay to have a break from reading and blogging.) And thank you so much; I think my bookish photography has evolved over time and I really like where I’m going with it right now. 🙂
