Hey all! I’ve fallen into a blogging (and reading) slump of sorts hence why I haven’t been that active on here these past few weeks, but I hope that you all are doing well and having a swell June so far. Anyway, today I thought I’d make a brief comeback by posting a Top Ten Tuesday post because I find that bookish memes are perfect remedies for blogging slumps. Plus, the last time I participated in a Top Ten Tuesday feature was… back in October 2016.
And in case you haven’t heard of Top Ten Tuesday before, it’s a weekly feature created by the team at The Broke and the Bookish where book bloggers can share a list of books that pertain to a theme or prompt. This week’s topic is “Top Ten Series I’ve Been Meaning to Start but Haven’t.” But because my TBR pile is sky high I’ll actually be including more than 10 series in mine… Don’t judge. XD
I haven’t read any Patrick Ness but of all the sci-fi series on my TBR list the Chaos Walking trilogy is my most anticipated one to read since the reviews on Goodreads promise that this series is nothing short of superb. I’ve also heard that it induces a rollercoaster of feels for readers, too.
To my great shock, I still haven’t started my copy of Lady Midnight. I preordered it back when it first came out in early 2016, but, unfortunately, I never made time for it. This is a big surprise to me since The Infernal Devices trilogy is my ALL TIME FAVORITE YA fantasy series. (Jem Carstairs is my bae.) And I loved The Mortal Instruments series when I read it as a teenager. (Believe it or not, I was Clary’s age then. Gee, time sure flies.) Anyway, I don’t plan to prolong returning to the shadowhunter world for much longer though. Lady Midnight is in my TBR pile for this summer!
I didn’t exactly love A Court of Thorns and Roses and I found A Court of Mist and Fury problematic but way more enjoyable than book 1 all the sex scenes aside. (You guys know that I’m quite a prude and can’t appreciate NA or graphic sex in books… Those explicit, mature romances just aren’t for me apparently.) I know that the Throne of Glass series is Sarah J. Maas’ YA fantasy series so I believe there should be a more mild romance with. Despite the polarizing opinions I’ve seen surfacing around the blogosphere about this series, I’m looking forward to reading it sometime soon.
To be honest, I’m on the fence about The Maze Runner. I remember looking up quotes on Goodreads for this series once and the prose and dialogue really threw me off; it wasn’t really my style and I was really turned off from wanting to read it. But I already have all the books in the series and it’s not like I’ve completely lost interest in the premise so I probably will read it eventually… in the far future.
Ugh, so I was MAJORLY SPOILED for the ending for this series… and I’ve already seen the first movie. So this is another one of those 50/50 type of series where I’m debating whether I should or shouldn’t read.
The covers and spines for the books in this series is absolutely stunning, which was why I bought them. I don’t really know what this is about other than that it’s a fantasy though, haha.
The anime series is excellent so when I found out the manga was getting serialized in America, I knew I had to start collecting the graphic novels. I’ll binge read the series when I have more of the volumes.
I have extremely high expectations for Orange after all the praise it’s gotten since its release! There’s also an anime and live action film, but I don’t want to see either of those until I’ve read the series. (Bonus: it’s a relatively short manga series, running at only five volumes.)
This pick is a bit of a cheat for two reasons. I’ve actually already read a few chapters of A Man Called Ove but just haven’t finished it yet. Also this “series” isn’t really one since the other sequels aren’t exactly continuations from the first book but rather spin-offs so I’ve heard. But I thought I’d include this one anyway since I want to give my list more variety than just YA titles.
This made it on here because it’s one of the few classics that is a series. For some reason, none of the English classes I was in in middle and high school had this as part of their assigned reading. (All my friends that went to school with me but had different teachers read it though, lol.)
So that’s my completed list! Indeed, I did have to recycle a lot of my old photos for this post since I didn’t have the proper lighting to take new photos when I was writing this up. (I get home from work late in the afternoon now.) Anyhow, thanks for tuning in! Do let me know what titles/series we have in common this week. And any of these that you think I should make a priority? 🙂
I’d just read the first book in the Divergent series and call it good. 😉

Glad to hear that! I’ve actually seen the film and liked it! (But, conversely, this could also be the reason why I’ve prolonged picking up the series. 😅)

I read Snow Like Ashes last month and I loved it, the world’s building is wonderful from the best I’ve read, I really liked it 😊❤

Hi Marie! It’s always so nice to hear from you. ^.^ And thank you, the manga I’ve been reading has helped with reading slump a bit. 🙂
Oh man, I’m so sorry to hear that about The Knife of Never Letting Go; you may just be the first that I’ve spoken to that didn’t see the hype. That’s all right though. It might be a good idea to lower my expectations a bit for that one then.
Thanks so much! XD

I completely forgot about a lot of these series. They’ve been sitting on my tbr list forever. I must admit I had a spur of the moment bargain buy with the Maze Runner series and I regret it. Dystopian novels don’t really appeal to me any longer and I’m just not all that enthusiastic about the series. I’ve yet to read a Patrick Ness book but I’ve heard nothing but fantastic things about the Chaos Walking trilogy, I just don’t know if I’m ready to be punched in the feels again haha.

Ugh, that is so me. I’ve long since given up on Book Outlet because, honestly, their shipping was too wasteful considering that if I waited a little longer my local bookstore would bring in the same bargain inventory as they offered. I digress though. What I meant to say while bringing that site up was that I got my copies of The Maze Runner series there.
AND YES. I am so relieved to hear I’m not the only one that doesn’t feel up to reading dystopian books as much anymore. (To be honest, I never even read that many. I’ve only picked up the Uglies series and The Hunger Games now that I think about it.)

I’ve only read lluminae and the first book of the Legend trilogy from your list! And there are a lot in my tbr, hope we both can remedy that soon. ❤

And I remember how much you loved Illuminae! Same, good luck with your TBR as well, Poulami. ❤

“Orange” hit all my feelz. I loved it all – the manga, anime, and live action.
The Legend trilogy is also a good one. But I was super disappointed with “Snow Like Ashes”. I didn’t like the writing.

Oh my gosh, all the more reason why I feel like I should bump Orange up the priority TBR list.
And I’m sorry to hear about Snow Like Ashes! I might decide to lower my expectations on that one then.

SUMMER I NEED YOU TO DROP EVERYTHING AND GO PICK TKAM UP. Also? There’s quite a few here that I’ve been meaning to read, too, but haven’t. That’s all right. I did try The Knife of Never Letting Go, though, but was put off by the voice. In any case, I hope you get out of your blogging/reading slump soon!

UGH, I KNOW. You’ve been telling me this since… 2015. (Has it been that long since I’ve first met you? Maybe.)
And, oh no, I hope you didn’t tell Joey that. XD
Thank you, Shelumiel, I hope so too! :’)

The Throne of Glass series is really good, but I’ll warn you that the romance gets a little more explicit during the later books, not as bad as the ACOTAR books but since it’s something that bothers you (it bothers me too), I thought I’d mention it. The Maze Runner is decent but nothing earth shattering. Same goes for Snow Like Ashes. I tried the first Chaos Walking book, didn’t get far into it, but I’m going to try again. I read To Kill A Mockingbird at school, it was okay, but I didn’t love it enough to read the second one.

Okay, wow. Thank you so much for warning me; I wouldn’t have known otherwise. I wonder if it gets worse since I know there are several books left in that series.
And thank you for letting me know your thoughts on the books you’ve read on my list! Everything was super helpful. I hope you like The Knife of Never Letting Go better with your second try. 🙂

No problem, it’s not something I’m particularly comfortable with either, so I thought I’d let you know (as it’s not really a spoiler). I have no idea, I hope not! Ah no problem, I love sharing my thoughts on books! I hope so too 🙂

I recently finished reading The Queen of the Tearling and absolutely loved it! I cannot wait to read the rest in the series.

Yay, that’s wonderful to hear. Apparently it’s going to be a movie, too! (At least that’s what the sticker on my edition conveys.)

Yeah I looked that up and can’t find a whole lot from the last year about it. Hopefully though!

Summer you NEED TO READ LADY MIDNIGHT!!!! I just finished Lord of Shadows this week and wow–Clare still has it! You’ll love this new series.
Personally, I wouldn’t start The Maze Runner Trilogy. It’s such a slow series and I tortured myself to get through them all. But try it out and see how it goes. My best advice: watch the movies instead! They are 20x more exciting and have a much stronger plot. Oh, and they have Dylan O’Brien 😉
Legend is also a must!

Omg, LAUREN! I’m so happy to hear from you. :’)
OH GOSH, I KNOW. I KNOW. I’m going to pick Lady Midnight up this month, I promise. And I’m super happy to hear that. Speaking of TDA, I’m also glad that this one is going to be just a trilogy, too. (I think Cassie Clare does better with them; I’m part of the team that would have much preferred TMI to end with City of Glass.)
Lol, thank you for the advice! I think that’s exactly what I’ll do. 😛
Alright, I’m bumping that one up to the priority TBR list. (And Warcross, which I notice is also by Lu, because that sounds amazing.)

I read the first Maze Runner book and was very unimpressed with the writing. I didn’t bother finishing the series because I knew I’d struggle to get through it. I’ve only read the first two books in The Queen of the Tearling trilogy so far. The first book was meh imo, but the second book was very good!! I didn’t want to put it down.

Thanks for you input, Sarah! I’m afraid everyone I’ve talked to has shared similar opinions to yours so I might give The Maze Runner a pass after all. And wonderful! Did you hear that there’s actually going to be a movie for the first book?
