Summing It Up: February 2018

Hello there! I hope you’re all having a splendid March so far. I’m currently on my spring break and thought today would be a good time to release February’s monthly recap post. (Also, I know I keep making empty blogging promises but I DEFINITELY will have book (and manga!) reviews coming this month-I guarantee these will happen because I’ve actually already have them scheduled to publish on their own.)

I didn’t read all that much in February. However, I did participate in my first readathon (on Instagram)! The #ForeverReading 24 hour reading challenge (hosted by Cherry @_forevermint and Lissa @rabidreadings) was interesting since I was documenting my progress in the form of Insta stories. (I’ve always thought that if I’d ever join these reading marathons it would be via the blogosphere, so this was unexpected, haha.) I had a really good time though, and it was a positive experience  since the rules were flexible. In total, I was able to read nearly 400 pages of A Court of Wings and Ruin despite still getting a full night’s rest, working part time, and meeting with my friends from out of town for a long brunch. In my stories (which is still up as part of my Instagram Highlights by the way, if you do want to check those videos out. I believe you can only see view them if you’re using the app on your phone though) I talked about my thoughts on ACoWaR, the book itself. ACoWaR‘s a kind of meh read and I didn’t find myself enjoying it as I did its predecessor, A Court of Mist and Fury. As of where I left off (which is about halfway), I’d say it would get 2 out of 5 stars from me. For now, I don’t have interest in picking it up so I’ve put it on hold until further notice.

Two faves in one with this! Of all the ways to share unboxings, Instagram story might be my favorite these days. I have grown more comfortable talking in them more (although I can never stand watching them once they’re uploaded because ugh who doesn’t CRINGE when they listen to themselves?) but I much prefer creating these music in the background kind of videos-and a lot of my Instagram friends/followers seem to have been expressing that they like them, too. So today, on the blog, I wanted to share my story from when I did the Simply Gilded January subscription box because I’m really proud of how it turned out if I do say so myself. :’) (This is my first time uploading a video on Youtube but I wanted you guys to hear the bgm in case you wanted to. I still feel weird about it and I’ve kept it unlisted for privacy reasons though.) And, sorry it’s in vertical format and such bad quality… but this will have to work for now until I figure out how to embed original videos on WordPress. (I don’t think I can with the free version of WP, sadly.)

I also shared my very first true “Study with Summer” video after people requested one on Instagram. It was also through my story and I thought it would be fun. So here’s the video for that as well.

I also ordered some really nice art in February. The first is a custom chibi portrait by Teresa @birduyen and the second item is Siobhan @siobhanchiffon’s sketchbook! I adore the chibi sketch so much because it looks like I’m in a kimono with a big bow-like obi in the back. The washi Teresa used for the “fabric” is also too pretty. As for Siobhan’s sketchbook, I’ve done several flip throughs and it’s so worth the money since it showcases a lot of her art in 2017. Her #crewofcuties are so adorable. As you probably know by now, I love supporting artists when I can and I had to get these when they became available. (Plus, Teresa doesn’t always have commissions open so this was a rare chance for me to get a custom art print.)

Perhaps, a permanent monthly favorite of mine from now on will be my planner spreads. I try to keep them simple because, to be honest, I don’t have time and can’t make time to go crazy with it like I know how other people do. XD Although not fancy, I really like how February’s turned out!

I fangirled over this comeback probably an annoying amount on Instagram but I could not help myself. As much as I like K-pop and have been part of the genre’s fandom for a long time the only artist that I consider myself a true stan (or fan) of is Exo. There was no doubt, since the beginning from their debut (and even pre-debut) that I was an Exo-L but their hoobaes, NCT, have me smitten. I think the Boss era has officially converted me into a NCTzen because, oh my, why are all the members so handsome and talented?? My bias (or favorite) has kind of always been Ten… but Taeyong is a bias wrecker since he’s one of the few members in this band that is older me. Two new members were added to this unit this promotion round and they are ADORABLE. Lucas is so 4D and Jinwoo is precious (not to mention his vocals are pure honey, gah). And, needless to say (since this is NCT we’re talking about), I love the choreo so much. T_T

MY FAVES. Soon after “Boss” teasers for “Baby Don’t Stop” came out and I was pretty much done. These two, as mentioned earlier, are my absolute favorites in NCT. I’m also so pleased and proud of baby Ten’s vocals. :’) And I don’t know why but TY whispering/saying randomly nice sounding words together is shockingly so sensual, LOL. (Don’t ask. This NCT comebacks have me so dead.)

“Fly With Me” gave me my Korean R&B and hip hop fix for the month; I was listening to it so much.

You might be sensing a theme in February but Korean hip hop was what I was most into that month. This song is so groovy and I love it.

I don’t think I’ve ever shared a beauty/fashion video on this blog before but I like to watch them occasionally. Jenn Im is one of my favorite Youtubers and I loved how this video was filmed/edited. The bgm is so chill and perf for the concept as well. (Other fashion/outfit videos I’ve liked in the past are: Sophia Chang’s Desert lookbook and Evelina’s Summer Night lookbook)

– What I’ve Been Watching –

I Cannot Hug You7/10 [Completed]

Gah, this one is just so stinking cute. It’s mainly about a guy that has mysophobia that meets a girl that literally survives through the touch of other humans (she’s a vamp-more on that later). I might be slightly partial to the male lead after seeing him in Princess Agents and then in The Eternal Love, but I think Xing Zhao Lin’s a promising young actor. I’ve also seen a few of Zhang Yu Xi’s works and she’s wonderful at portraying the haughty, misunderstood characters; she once again fits this role to the tee. When I first picked it up I had no idea it was going to be about vampires though, LOL. That strange twist works well with the modern storyline without being cringey though. I certainly have plans of watching season 2 when I get the chance.

Trailer (which probably explains my one-line synopsis way better):

Untouchable Lovers?/10 [Currently Watching]

I went into this one with zero expectations and it’s quite good. The only thing I knew prior to starting was that main couple would get amnesia at some point and would essentially restart their romance. I was skeptical of this trope because this is exactly the problem I had with Lost Love in Times… These plotlines makes viewers ask why the first arc of the episodes were necessary… but once the second storyline started in this drama I was completely hooked. It does help that the main male lead is absolutely gorgeous (really, everyone in this drama is though). (Oh! And ex-Exo member, Luhan’s in real life girlfriend is in this, which is quite interesting. I’ve never seen any of her dramas even though she’s supposedly is a rising star in the industry.) I’m also fond of the costumes and set design right now; the camerawork and shading is also pretty vibrant but still subdued (kind of reminiscent of The Eternal Love drama I mentioned in the paragraph earlier actually). But the hair, especially for the females, make me giggle since they’re so outrageous. Anyway, the verdict is so far, so good.

Trailer (because you guys have to see all the pretty in this!):

So yeah! That’s it for February. It was a fast month so I don’t think this post was way too long? Anyway, have a awesome March, friends! Until next time (which I hope shall come sooner than later). XD

It is always so great to read monthly wrap-ups from you, Summer, and great to hear from you on this blog ❤ That 24 hours reading challenge sounds like a lot of fun, though I am not sure it would be for me, as I tend to enjoy reading with little breaks here and there, I think that would stress me out a whole lot 😂 I’m glad you had fun with it, though! 🙂
I always love seeing your stories over on instagram about everything, really ❤
I hope that March is treating you well so far! Sending you all the love and hugs ❤ ❤

Thank you for always catching up with me through these posts, Marie! I really appreciate it. ❤

The 24 hour reading challenge was such a… challenge. It was flexible because I still slept and even worked for a few hours but it was an interesting experience. I think because it wasn’t super rule driven I wasn’t as stressed when participating. You should definitely consider it for the future if you find one that isn’t too strict!

And aww, thank you so much, Marie! I think I get way more interaction on my Instagram stories than posts… which is kind of sad. I think it has to do with IG’s algorithm… but I also prefer posting on my stories since they’re more laidback anyway. Thank you, though! ❤

Of course, I love reading your wrap-ups so much! ❤
I get that – well I have been hearing similar things about instagram all around, how posts don’t get as much interactions as stories. Stories are a lot of fun though 😀 ❤

Aww, that’s okay, Joey! I really only post once a month so I’m not surprised that you haven’t seen me around. I recently logged back onto some reviewer sites (e.g. Goodreads and Edelweiss) so, lately, I’ve been a little more motivated.

AND LOL, pharmacology is a part of the pharmacy curriculum so you’re not wrong. XD It is going well~~

Right?? The boybands are getting churned out so fast! The baby bottom skin is probably due to them being younger too. I think NCT has a member that is like 16 Asian age, so 15. 😮

I live for your insta aesthetics. Your Instagram game is always on point and I LOVED the Simply Gilded unboxing. I’m still holding out on actually buying it myself though, despite how pretty everything looks haha. You’re planner also looks so organised and neat. Teach me your ways!!!!
I’m basically fresh out of books to review now so I’m hoping I can get to actually reading again. I’m making a good start with my re-reads, but I do kind of want to start a new book, but I have zero ideas what I want to read haha.

Eek, thank you, Lois! I think I use the Instagram stories feature more than I I actually post though since the videos are more laidback. And haha, the planner has helped me so much with school and work. :’)

And omg, I’m in the opposite boat. I have too many reviews that I want to work on and haven’t really felt that inspired or motivated to finish. I’ve at least started them though! XD
