This week’s topic for Top Ten Tuesday, a meme by The Broke and the Bookish, is Top Ten Books on My Spring “To Be Read” List! It was too hard for me to anticipate what I would actually be reading next, so I just made a list of books I’m most excited to read.
As always, this is not in any particular order of excitement (that just sounded so awkward, but I hope you know what I mean), let’s get started!
Gone With the Wind
by Margaret Mitchell
Genres: Classics, Historical Fiction, Romance
Being someone who grew up in the South, I’m interested to see how Mitchell uses the Civil War South elements in this classic. It’s pretty lengthy, and I’ve read reviews that state “I want to slap spoiled, selfish, and stupid Scarlett O’Hara silly,” but I think I’ll enjoy it.
Divergent
by Veronica Roth
Genres: [Young Adult] Dystopia
The second movie is about to be released. I think it’s about time for me to read these.
Infinite Jest
by David Foster Wallace
Genres: Fiction, Literature, Contemporary, Humor
I’ve heard so many great things about Wallace’s beautiful writing and his clever use of neologisms. It’s also pretty lengthy and takes time to comprehend, but all of my guy friends always remind me that this is a 2015 must-read.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone
by Laini Taylor
Genres: [YA] Paranormal, Angels
This one has had high reviews across the blogosphere since it’s been released. I have the second one to this trilogy, but hopefully when I get this first book I can begin reading them.
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan
by Lisa See
Genres: Historical Fiction
I got this one, along with The Glass Castle (review here), as a Christmas gift from one of my friends, and have been meaning to read this. It’s set in China, and I love good Asian historical fiction!
Fangirl and Eleanor and Park
by Rainbow Rowell
Genres: [YA] Contemporary
I mean I haven’t read any Rainbow Rowell. Shouldn’t that explain enough?
SPACE
Shadow and Bone
by Leigh Bardugo
Genres: [YA] High Fantasy
The Grisha trilogy, I’ve heard, is nothing like George R.R. Martin or Patrick Rothfuss’ novels, they’re more ya high fantasy quick-reads, but I have high expectations for this one. And, speaking of those two epic fantasy writers, I need to read some of their works as well.
Water for Elephants
by Sara Gruen
Genres: Historical Fiction
This one just sounds awesome. Set during the Depression, involves a circus, and there’s even romance. I’m anticipating this one to be a good read.
Cinder
by Marissa Meyer
Genres: [YA] Fantasy, Dystopia
I actually tried reading this book when it was just released. At the time, I thought it ranged from meh to okay and didn’t finish it. But a lot of my friends have bugged me about how great this one is, so I may reread it. I also got the sequel on sale the other day, another incentive to give it another go.
Bloodlines
by Richelle Mead
Genres: [YA] Paranormal, Vampire
Something about Richelle Mead’s books makes me love them. She kind of reminds me of Cassandra Clare and Meg Cabot, they’re not exceptional writers but I keep coming back for more. Plus, this is a spin-off series from the Vampire Academy series, so I know I’ll enjoy it.
I have Shadow and Bone on my list, too!
Your list is much wider than mine; 8 of my books are fantasy and the other two are somewhere between science fiction and fantasy.

That’s still really cool, I think the main genre I will always gravitate towards is fantasy! 🙂

Hey! Could you suggest some good online reading sites? I have my break coming up soon and your blog just gets me all bookworm excited! :p

Nice! 🙂 I wish my break wasn’t already over, school with this daylight savings time change is really throwing me off! And I actually don’t know of any good online reading sites. I’m kind of a maniac when it comes to buying/collecting books. I’ve actually been contemplating whether I should make a post of my bookcase (it’s pretty crazy looking), haha.

Haha! No probs. You should! I’d like to see it. I don’t have a very impressive one. Need to start collecting more.

Beware of collecting more, it gets scary addicting!

Yay for Rainbow Rowell! Tell me if Cinder’s good. I have second thoughts reading it. Nice list btw. 😀

You should definitely read more Rainbow Rowell! And Cinder is on my list too. It’s about time I find out what the hype is all about.

I know I should! I’ve heard Rowell’s books are really great, so I’ll probably start Eleanor and Park when it arrives (and I’ve recently ordered Fangirl too)!

I loved Fangirl! It’s wonderful. I hope you enjoy it too. 🙂
I’ve had Eleanor and Park for ages but I never bothered to read after the first chapter, I don’t know why. I hope to finish it soon – it’s in my list too!! 🙂

From your list I’ve read Cinder, Bloodlines, Eleanor & Park, Fangirl, and Divergent. I recommend them all!

If it makes you feel any better (although I don’t know why it would make you feel any better…?), I too have not read any Rowell. But perhaps you can enjoy it for the both of us!
Cheers,

OMG–you are in for so much fun! Ditch whatever you are reading right now and pick up FANGIRL! (ELEANOR & PARK was also amazing, but FANGIRL was genious!) WATER FOR ELEPHANTS had one of the best hooks I’ve ever seen, and DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE seduced me with its setting (Also, it was magical and offbeat and just plain good.) Sorry for all the parentheses. They pop out when I’m excited. 🙂

Great, I’m glad to hear that! And haha, it’s totally fine, the use of caps lock and parentheses seems to come out of me naturally even when I’m not excited. ^.^

OMG DIVERGENT…………….You definitely read it! I cant say its the best series ever but I love the world in which it was built upon. PS If you dont mind me asking, is Vampire Academy a good series? I have been hearing about Bloodlines series so much and was actually gonna buy it but I havent read Vampire Academy. How is it?

So far in Bloodlines (I’ve already started reading it), it doesn’t seem like you have to read Vampire Academy before starting it. BUT, I definitely recommend reading VA. There’s a badbutt female protagonist and great plot twists. I consider them one of the best if not the best vampire series I’ve ever read. Definitely give it a go, and then read Bloodlines! 🙂

THANK YOU!!! I should definitely read it now 😀

Great list! The Divergent series is awesome if you’re into the Hunger Games. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is beautiful and kind of heartbreaking – actually so is Water For Elephants! Happy reading! Excited to see your reviews.

I did like The Hunger Games, so I can’t wait to read Divergent! And most historical fiction novels always wind up making me sad, but hopefully they’ll be some cheerful moments as well!
